The farmer that owns the property I hunt on asked me to eliminate some chucks.
He has a nice soybean crop and the chucks are digging holes, making crop circles, and making a mess. As usual.
I dug out the 6.5x47 cleaned and lubed it .
It's been a number of years since I messed with this thing. It used to be a 243 WCF. I fried that barrel in 700 rounds and decided to turn it into a 6.5x47.
We routinely get to 2000 rounds in competition with a six and a half by 47.
It's a M700 SA with a fluted Remington sendero barrel from Mark Chanlynn 1-8 twist.Finish at 26 inches.
Defensive Edge side port brake.McMillian HBR stock.
Right now it has the 5-25x56 S&B PMII on top. With P3 mill-dot.
Decided I'd better check zero.
Shot between rain squalls this afternoon.
Cold and clean first round down the pipe in 5 years I guess.

Clicked the scope to zero before the shot.
Long time since I worked this one up.
Doesn't look like anything changed.

I lost my drops so I had to shoot the thing to figure where it needed to be.
I clicked up 2 clicks for the first shot and it went low.It took 2 more clicks .... I just clicked to the first bullet hole. For a total of 4 clicks of up to be on at 200 yards.

Guessed my butt off and dialed up to 1 on the Double turn dial. 10 clicks 3.580 of up at 100 yards.
Fired two and called it good enough.
This combo ..the 123 Amax will turn the biggest chucks inside out... Yuk.

Randy the gunsmith was playen.
No bolt handle coming off on this one.
I believe the bolt on this one is from PTG.
This is a older build.
These days we weld them on..
Bolt handle coming off is one problem I've yet to see.
Mark Chanlynn makes a really nice barrel.

No paint.
Gel coat from McMillian in GAP camo.
Just pull out the GAP colors and use white gray and black. Kinda looks cow-ish Even stick liked it.

It and the 6BR have been the most accurate and easiest to do so, IME.

DonKnows SIL took over Dons deer spot.
I offered to try to help him get set up.
Studying the rifles I have that would work for him.
I decided that the MooCow was the best option.
I had been using it as a woodchuck gun.
So I switched things up some.
Didn't think the AMAX was the way to roll for deer so it got switched to the 127g Barnes LRX.
Stuck with Varget.
Did a pretty minor load development.
And she was GTG.

Dropped the big S&B and mounted up the 2-12 Athlon.
I find this scope to be a very useful.
No issues of any kind so far.
Looking at the lower left of the hanging target there a 2 hits about a inch apart..
Used the hash marks in the scope and the single hit in the middle a tad to the right is where it ended up.
Pretty good shooting for 400 yards.

Moved on out and did the 500 yard silhouette Target.
This dog will hunt.
The 6.5x47 is impressive.

+1 A 6.5x almost anything in a good 1-8 barrel, is very hard to beat. Once dialed in, kept clean, it just shoots. All you need do is check the zero, as you did, and head out.
Bought a used custom 6.5x06 with a Hart barrel in 1967 and have been continually amazed by the 6.5s ever since.

Are you thinking 6 or 6.5 for the 47?

6.5 The one in the pic is a .243 so got that covered. Don’t own any 6.5’s and just can’t creed yet. Maybe someday.

I can't do a manbun.
Just can't.
The 6.5x 47 is the easy button for accuracy.
We run them in competition all summer .
It's the little cartridge that could.
2000 rounds of goodness.
Varget is your friend.

Blood on the cow.
Young guy did a 255 yard high shoulder shot on a nice sized doe.
Thing lunged about 10 yards and piled up.
Sucker works.
