How good are the original Tasco Titan 30mm scopes?
What current scopes are they comparable too,and
what is a fair price to pay for one in excellent cond?

No matter how good it is, it is still a Tasco.

Huge, heavy, built like a tank (needs to be, as Tasco's customer service is a very, very bad joke), with very good glass. Eye relief (depending on model) can be suspect, adjustments normally pretty good.

It's the modern version of the older World Class Plus line, which were identical in review.

I wouldn't buy one new, but a used for $100ish, depending on condition and version, might could get my attention.....

It's amazing how people let their prejiduce get in the way. It could be a product far superior to anything produce by Zeiss or Swarvoski but if it has the Tasco name some people would want nothing to do with it. If it's on par with the World Class Plus then it's a pretty decient scope. I have one that I picked up on a rifle and I was plesantly surprised. I put it on a different '06 but see no reason to replace it. The optice are nice and clear and it's been a good scope through the one season that it's been used so far.

The reason Tasco has the reputation it has, is that it's deserved. Their lower to middle end stuff, is junk.... it might work for a little while, but it WILL fail, and customer service is horrible, at best.

I have a World Class Plus (4x44mm) that works well, but it's HUGE, heavy, and built like a tank. I have little into it, and when it goes tit's up, I'll not feel bad about it.

Would you buy a 1984 Ranger? Probably not. Would you buy a 2008 Ranger? Maby. My point is that it is possible for a companie product to get better. I personally tryo to evaluate them on a case by case basis.

Wouldn't buy either of those Rangers. Overpriced, for what you get.

The Tascos that are actually useable, are made in Japan. Those are FEW and far between....

The customer service still sucks. That fact, don't change.

Do you understand what I am saying? I've used Tasco's in the past and never needed their customer service. I hunted and killed animals with them. I guess I'm just lucky.

I've used Tasco's in the past. Hunted them, killed critter with them. Had them all break, too (except for this WCP, so far). And not one has been repaired due to the PITA that their Customer Service is, and the service that it ain't.

Since I know nothing , I let price determine quality.The more you pay ,the more you get. It may not be perceptible,or make a difference in the end but it is no less true.I have had the 30 dollar scopes and the 1600 dollar scopes and had a lot of fun with both and that is all that matters.

Different strokes, different folks. I'm sure that Tasco scopes are fine, if you're can't afford better, but buying good equipement that holds its value is almost always a better route to take than buying suboptimal junk. I personally wouldn't waste the cost of ammo necessary to zero a Tasco of any grade.

Good luck with your wonderful Tasco, but I'll take my chances with the known quality that Leupolds provide.

I'm looking at getting a Tasco Titan ,having after a 50%(2/4) failure rate,I'm not much of a Leupold fan.Besides they are Bushnells now.

I've had a couple Tasco's that were supposed to be quality scopes. One was a World Class Plus (I believe) that was recommended by SWFA and another was an early Tasco Super Sniper that was reputedly built by Hakko. Neither had the kind of optical clarity that I have found in many other scopes. I was often tempted by the early Titan's but later opted to try those Tasco models that were supposed to be even better and were certainly more costly. Since the higher priced and regarded scopes never cut it for me, I doubt the Titan's would have at that time either. Possibly newer offerings might have the kind of glass that separates good scopes from the also-rans. The ones I had didn't.

I've owned three Titans, and wish I had them back. Tasco attempted to run with the big boys. They contracted out the scope from one of the top optic companies in Japan. They made one mistake and put there name on it.
They are well made, big and heavy. I'm talking about the 30mm models and they are several steps ahead of the World Class models.

As if that's an improvement.....

3rd answer...under $40....JMHO

Yeah, I can say as that I'd pass that one up either....
