…for the season anyway. The guns come out here next week and except for a brief gap here and there, some sort of firearm will be legal for the rest of the year. Might get it back out if I don’t shoot a buck with a gun, but frankly, seeing any deer at all gets tough on the WMA once the orange army starts tramping around, and so I’ll probably do something else in the gaps.
Yesterday I had a good sit. Had a tiny doe fawn within 20 yards behind me, saw a smallish buck at distance, maybe the one I missed in October, and as expected heard and saw some turkeys, plus the usual assortment of woodpeckers. Lots of scrapes now. Maybe they’ll still be at it next week.
Anyone else notice that woodpeckers sometimes scrounge around in mixed company, say a pileated and a red-bellied? I’ve seen it enough to conclude it’s normal behavior. Same goes for mixed flocks of little do-it birds like chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, kinglets, etc. Very entertaining.
Good luck, everyone.
