I tried out a Vortex Viper HD with a “too flimsy” tripod. Worked OK seeing horns a mile or so out but the tripod would not stay stable and the whole thing moved when I tried to pan right or left. Good for thorough ID on the target…..but the Contraption factor for scanning seemed high.

I’m thinking the rf binos…maybe 11- 15x….. just one unit for scanning, ID and RF.

I did stabilize my 10x Nikon on a stick and it was much better.

I’ll be looking around for the binos and a stick/tripod set up.

Seems that if I am alone when a long shot is to be taken, I rather only fiddle with the rifle and the rf binos to get the correct range….a separate range finder is another thing to mess with or bust.
