Had this gun from new bought in 1969 or so and just today I have found the trigger is very loose whether cocked or not. Anybody have a 336 with the trigger very loose?

I have a Brownells schematic in front of me and I can't see if there is a spring or a tang missing.

Marlin "trigger flop". I have had some with it, others, not. I suspected that it was due to a production era but I never tracked it. Check with the guys on Marlinowners.com https://www.marlinowners.com/forums/336.19/

It is normal for the factory Marlin trigger to be loose. You can change that with an aftermarket such as a wil west trigger.

My newer production marlin doesn't have the problem, but my older win 94 has a really floppy trigger. My guess is that is was just a general problem with lever guns.

There is a cure for the trigger flop but it runs about hundred and ten bucks. Maybe because of my age, I just let mine flop!

As posted earlier, Wild West Trigger will fix that problem, give you a great trigger pull. Not cheap, but worth it.

DF +1 I got one of those because of the horrendous weight of pull of the factory trigger on mine - money well spent in my opinion
Whatever you said...everyone knows you are a lying jerk. That's a bold assertion. Point out where you think I lied. Well?

Yeah, but still floppy. I’ve done it both ways. WW trigger is in a whole different class. Difference between good and great. DF

Mine breaks like a glass rod at 2 lbs. 12 oz. after a few minutes with the stone. It consistently shoots sub MOA {averages a little under 3/4" for 3 shots at 100 yards with favored loads}. I don't think the trigger hinders it's performance one little bit.

Different rifle, but still a Marlin. M-39 with trigger job I did, including a trigger stop. It's about the best M-39 trigger I've ever felt. DF

DF I have 2 Remlins ... a 336SS in 30-30 and a 1895GS in 45-70 ... replaced the factory triggers with the WWG trigger happy kits ... like Dirtfarmer said "Not cheap, but worth it"
