I've had this rifle for a while, it was regulated with Hornady DGX/S ammo and true to form regulation just like the factory test target. I've managed to duplicate using H-4831 in the past with the Hornadys but performance with Woodleighs was not up to par. Hornady told me they use H-48431, but I decided to go with Graham Wright's book at try IMR 4831 and voila..

And North Forks (450gr) with H-4831 :

And the DGX:

Velocities with the Woodleigh and DGX ranged from 209-2120 qnd 2150 with the North Forks which makes sense as they are 30 grains lighter.

How about the DGS solid load to go with that 480-grain DGX-Bonded ?
Hornady finally learned to make some good bullets.
2100-ish-fps with with those bullets will make a "bloody big hole" through anything that walks.
Just like a .458 WinMag, heh-heh-heh.

They shoot pretty close to POI with the DGXs, but what is puzzling, factory ammo is SLOW. One is lucky to reach 2060 fps out of my 25" barrels.

Jorge, I’ve had good results with CEB BBW#13 and Barnes Banded solids in a Krieghoff 500 NE 3” at 2175 fps. Duplicated factory regulation, normal pressures and phenomenal penetration. The sealing band bore rider technology of the BBWs is easy on the DR bores.

Looks like you’re ready for eles, up close.

Wildcatter: I'll have to post my results with CEBs, pretty good results just like you. I think their solids would be my bullet of choice were I ever to hunt elephant.

The CEB 0.423” 400 grains shoot completely through ele broadside at least out to 35 yds. The 0.509” 570s at 2175 work well on frontal brain shots, penetrating at least 4 ft. Given the diameter of your 0.458” bullets at 2150 you have Straight
Line Big Medicine in those 2 barrels. Go for it - hunt them while we still can.

Try for a couple of tuskless in Zim. An experience to remember when you spend so much time approaching and hunting in the herds. Very different than hunting a bull and his askaris and a real memorable chess game. BTW you’d get to put your DR through its paces - at least twice.

Cheers!!
