What is this? Bought six Colt mfg magazines today and took them down for cleaning. Lot of dirt, dust, crud in them. Three 20 round and three 30 round magazines.

On two of the 20 round mags I found some sort of gizmo made from a leaf spring type material. The first spring (or whatever it was) is shown laying on top of the mag in the position it was inside. Second photo shows it by itself and note the claws bent at both ends. I’ve run through a bunch of mags but never saw this before. I’m sure it’s a simple answer…I just don’t know what it is.

It’s a limiter, makes those 20’s a 5 round mag if I remember right. I use to run one for deer hunting cause 7 rounds was the limit.

I still have a couple somewhere. Colt used to pop rivet those to the floor plate to sell during the AWB.

That’s what I was thinking. But I’m not the expert that some here are. Both limited the mag to five rounds.
