I too have owned and shot quite a bit of the deuce 600’s. As far as I’m concerned the action alone puts them ahead of 700’s and most of the pack. The 600 action is stiff and used to be the base for many aacurate early benchrest rifles plus it has a really fast lock-time. If you can find one don’t let it get away

HarleyHutch, that’s a fine offer on a good rifle but my budget won’t allow me to spend that much I’m afraid. I’m needing a bargain basement unit I’m afraid… it’s tuff being on a fixed budget but retirement sure is worth it! Thanks again, Bill

Woodpecker I hear what you are saying on the 600-660 and XP100 type actions. I’ve considered converting my XP to a rifle but it would be a single shot only affair PLUS the gunsmith and parts bill would probably keep it from being a worthwhile venture anyway I may have to put the XP on the market just to boost my budget so that I can afford today’s prices… Thank you for your insights because the whole tall front sight and plastic rib affair on the Mohawk rifles had me wondering about their ability to shoot right groups.

Thank you for your insights because the whole tall front sight and plastic rib affair on the Mohawk rifles had me wondering about their ability to shoot right groups. The Mohawks do not have the plastic rib or shark fin sight, that feature was only on the original Rem 600. In my experience the Rem 600's do not usually shoot as well as the Mohawk 600 or Rem 660, they have a thinner barrel contour and are prone to heating up a bit quicker, and there is just enough weight difference that they do not handle quite as well for me. If my memory serves me correctly the Rem 600 was a 18.5" barrel, the 660 was a 20" barrel and the Mohawk 600 was an 18.5" barrel but the Mohawk 600 and Rem 660 were not as thin as the Rem 600. drover

Drover I stand corrected. I obviously don’t know as much as I thought about the rifles. Thanks for the info and insight. I am off to read up a little more now

^^^. Don’t overlook the Sako L461/A1 series of guns. They are the finest made mass produced rifles for the 222/223 family of cartridges ever produced. Cost wise, they’re probably on par with a m700 in 222 as well. You will do yourself a disservice by not at least looking at them.
Yours in Liberty,
BL
