what type of finish would have been on 1924 250-3000? also on the butt is the serial number and a K below the screw hole, what does that signify?

The serial number is normally on the forearm, buttstock and buttplate. Occasionally other symbols/letters show up, as far as we know they don't mean anything more than it's an assembly stamp.

This is a 1924 rifle. Catalogs call it a varnished American Walnut stock.. but I'll let others more knowledgeable about finishes clarify that.
