IIRC, the 416 Barnes is pretty much like the 416 Rem. Both based on a blown out and necked up 375 H&H.

Based on the info on Loaddata.com the 416 Barnes seems to be based on a rimmed fat case, probably the 348 Winchester case.

There is a 416 Barnes Supreme listed, attributed to P. O. Ackley which is described as a blown out (Improved) 375 H&H case.

Which one are you referring to?

the 416 Hoffman is slightly more "improved" than the 416 Rem, by approx 2 gr h20 + / - ... shorter neck, longer to shoulder & a bit wider at the shoulder , you can fire 416 Rem in a 416 Hoffman chamber by headspacing on the belt, but vice versa it won't work due to the shoulder/headspace being longer the bolt will have difficulty closing

The Hoffman has been around since the 70's and 416 Rem since '88

Before the scamdemic, RCC contacted me about information on the 416 Hoffman & I believe they made a customer a run of machined brass cases

https://loaddata.com/Cartridge/416-Barnes-Lever-Actions/425

thats the case dimensions.
My intentionsis to build a rimless versions using 9.3x64 cases as they have the same base diameter as a 45/70
A bloke has a .411 308 and gets 2300 fps so i should get about that velocity with 350gr and a bit less with 400gr

Curious as to what rifle platform you are designing for. For Barnes it was always intended for a tube feed lever gun. The only problem with the 416 Barnes in that platform was lack of .416 bullet manufacturing of safe flat nose designs in tube feed lever rifles.

Just a thought, why not use the 376 Steyr case for work up. It’s based on the Brenneke case but shorter in a larger caliber. In general, the Steyr case would make a great wildcat case for both necking down or up, or creating a tapered straight wall.

The steyr case will work fine I can get more 9.3x64 cases and I already have a heap.
I'm honestly thinking a Ruger Hawkeye. Ive already got 2 and I like them I'm planning a 500 Jeffery on a brno 600 and I also own a brno 600 and 602.
A sako wsm action would be great action only thing is the bolt face.
While still possible just not worth the effort.
Maybe even a CRF model 70 a I've always wanted to try them

The .416 Barnes Supreme was done by Fred N. Barnes circa 1959 to 1961.
His 1958 catalog does not show it alongside the
.450 Barnes Supreme, .404 BS, and .375 BS.
The .416 Barnes Supreme was listed by Ackley in 1962.
The Barnes Supreme carts are based on full-length, blown-out and necked-down .375 H&H.
There was also a .375 Barnes Supreme listed
and a .404 Barnes Supreme that used a .411-caliber bullet by 1958 or before.

That is my historical sleuthing on it,
based on a copy of the 1958 catalog and Ackley's book.

I had a .416 BS and a .450 BS built in 1987,
just before the .416 RemMag came out in 1988. Doh!

Fred was late to his game with the .416 but
he did it long before Hoffman and Remington,
if not before Buhmiller and Watts.

That other .416 Barnes was by Frank C. Barnes of COTW fame, based on .45-70 Gov necked down.
