Looking to see if anyone here shoots or has had a 6.5x68? Looking for your take on this cartridge, like favorite loads, sources of brass, or any other information you are looking to share. I am in the process of putting together a switch barrel set up with a 8x68S barrel and the 6.5x68 as a second barrel.

I don’t have personal experience with the 6.5x68S cartridge. Hoewever, it seems to be very similar to the 264 Win Mag in performance.

Case length appears to be closer to the 300 Win Mag case, which was reformed and used for the load data.com test quoted from Handloader Issue #144. Case capacity and performance with similar powders seems to closely duplicate 264 Win Mag data.

I have shot the 264 Win Mag and my own similar wildcat (6.5 MAN based on a 300 Win Mag case) and IME the 6.5 mags and cousins - eg, the 6.5x68S - are the most overlooked plains hunting cartridge class.

Your switch barrel rifle idea seems like a great plan. I have a 338 RUM/300 RUM switch barrel rifle and like the concept. Good luck!!

No experience with the 6.5x68s, but I have recently started shooting an 8x68s. For brass, I would check with Buffalo Arms, or perhaps Huntington. NECG used to carry loaded RWS ammo, not sure about now.

There is an African Hunting forum out there with info on both cartridges if you do some digging.

Correct, the case is 68 mm long. Using reformed .300 Ultra Mag brass for my 8x68s

case I'm talking about I believe it's 43 mm long. little shorter than a 556 and a little longer than a Grendel in a 6.8 (.277) caliber in its original form.
this is pretty much AR stuff. I may be the one confused and answering wrong to the op..

The only down side to most factory 6,5x68's is the twist, too slow. If you are getting one made, get the proper fast twist. Essentially, .264 Win Mag ballistics.

I have custom rifles for both the 6.5x68mm and the 8x68mmS. Let me know if you have specific questions.
