Originally, I posted a question asking if anyone had or was familiar with a McMillan G30 series rifle - since I had received a McMillan stock blank for one. So please allow me to reword my question. Since this stock will fit any Rem 700 long action based rifle, what I’m asking now: Are factory or aftermarket, large caliber “express rifles” common? I do stock work and I'm trying to figure out what to do with this McMillan stock blank. It’s for a 700 long action receiver and with the fish belly shape to accommodate an extended magazine necessary for larger cartridges. The Oberndorf bottom metal is made for it and the stock was machined to fit. I could put a standard long action with a deeper 3.25-in mag box that would probably hold (5) 06-type cases.
All I’ve ever seen of these types of rifles were based on Mauser or Win 70 actions - just not familiar with any big bores based on a 700. I'm trying to decide if I want to pursue working further on this stock to make it ready for an action like that OR do should I just modify it, remove the the fish belly, etc. and reconfigure it to a standard long action.
Not trying to sell anything just looking for knowledge from those who have it. So any help, advice, education in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Py

most hunters for dangerous game will not use a rifle that is not controlled round feed as in the Mauser rifles.the push feed ones like Remington use a snap over extractor which can fail at a bad time but I have never had this ever happen on any of my Remington's in over 50 years. you can have a M16 extractor installed if you feel safer?
It doesn't have to be a "large caliber express rifle". That configuration would be a benefit for any belted case, i.e. .264WM, 7mmRM, .300WM, to gain an extra round in the well.....4 vs the normal 3. Or as you mentioned 5 in a non belted case. Personal opinion, if it doesn't work into your plans, I'd sell it to someone that wants that configuration rather than modify it.
