The only multiple ones I own and can justify (in my messed up mind are):
308 Win: Sako finnwolf and Springfield M1A 223 Tikka sporter and ar-15's 7.62x39mm. Ruger predator bolt and AK-47 clone
Who has a bunch of the same and how do you decide which goes hunting and which stays home?

5 7mm-08’s 3 6.5 CM’s 4 30-06’s
I usually just pick a couple of rifles to hunt with each year. These are the duplicates though.

in 308 Winchester I have a Steyr, a Kimber, a Remington 40X and Remington 700s in LVSF, XCR CT, XCR LRT, VTR and 5R Milspec configurations. There may be others not coming immediately to mind. Added: I did forget one, I have a 700 Mountain Rifle stainless synthetic lurking about.

45-70 in a Marlin 1895 XLR, an 1895 Cowboy LTD, a Guide Gun, a Rolling Block on a Swedish action and a Rolling block from the Custom Shop.
I loved them all for different uses and ammo but have moved on to smaller cartridges here in the South East US.
22 Long rifle doesn't count...

No duplicate centerfires except for two .308 Palma rifles, a primary and backup, for match shooting.
Too close for irons, switching to scope...

I have a lot more multiples than singles.
Just in 6.5mm bore rifles I have the following; 2x 256 Newton, 3x 6.5-284, 10x 6.5x55. 18x 6.5 Creedmoor, and 22x 260.
I keep a few firearms and a full set of hunting kit cached with friends in Etna, NH, and few plinking and protection firearms at our house in Breckenridge, CO, so that I don't have to fly with firearms if I want to hunt or shoot in those locations.

If you have more than one 6.5 creedmoor, does that mean you have to turn in your man card and wear a man bun???

This got me thinking. Duplicates or more of 5 rounds.
In none of them do I actually use more than one of the guns.
3 22-250s. None have been outside in awhile. Meanwhile, been watching for a 1-8 Tikka! Insanity!

Too many to list but I ask this wtf is making a killing with passbook savings interest? If your money is laying around pretty soon your wife will have all new furniture just after the last remodel you didn't know you needed. Further more you will be azzhole deep in rubber dogsh*t from wallyworld too.Buying a new gun you don't need but want is a American and b patriotic. Multiples of the same cartridges only makes sense so you don't pizz away more money on another set of dies, brass, etc..mb

They're not all 'hunting' rifles. Same cartridge, but built for hunting, long range competition, and bench competition.
It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

I had three Win 70s, featherweights, in 257 Roberts, custom barrels at the same time, sold them eventually as I wanted to cull the herd, I'm not a collector but I do wish I had a nice pre '64 Model 70.

Boy… This thread could get embarrassing 🤣. I have multiple duplicate hunting rifles but for the most part the optics are very different. 2x up to 4.5-14x. Clear cuts for deer or almost point blank range for hogs.

Never been much on one for rifles of duplicate chamberings. We do have two 30-30s. One mine and one my wife’s. I do have duplicate 22s(4 I think) and even two 22 Magnums. Beyond that the closest to duplicates is a Hornet and K Hornet.
Revolvers is another matter. I do have a few in duplicate chamberings.
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

I have five rifles in .300 Win. Mag. A Winchester M70 Walmart special I got into cheap and four Ruger #1s. Three "S" models and one "B" model. Two of the "S" version are "Liberty" guns rom 1976. Every one of them has exceeded my accuracy expectations. PJ

My duplicates are generally due to different styles of rifles (bolt action, autoloader, single shot, etc.). I also can see the "need" even within the action type. A guy could easily have no real overlap with a cheap .308 bolt action truck gun, a stainless/syn .308 bolt action sporter, a nice walnut/blued .308 bolt action, a flyweight mountain rifle .308 bolt action, a chopped/suppressed .308 bolt action, and a tactical/precision/target .308 bolt action. And that's just bolt guns.
Now with even more aplomb

12 rifles in .308 caliber 5 rifles in .243 caliber 4 rifles in .224 caliber 3 rifles in .277 caliber 2 rifles in .223 caliber 2 rifles in .204 caliber Lots of 30 cals, 3 6mm, 12 in 223/224, 2 277, 2 284,......................

Could you imagine if this thread had pictures? Damn. Although, I lost all mine in a boating accident..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Unless you are a real bad shot, multiple rifles in large calibers seems like a waste. If you want to shoot your rifles, it makes sense to shoot the smaller cartridges, and when I do that, I will shoot hundreds of rounds a day and you need multiple rifles in same or multiple cartridges to do that. It’s best to have 5 223’s; 6 222 mags; 4 222 REM; 3 17HMR; 2 17 REM; 2 22-250’s; 3 220 Swifts; 2 22 Hornet’s; 3 or more 6mm’s Then you need to go and shoot them…

I have multiple 22,6, and 6.5 creedmoors. Justified by the 4 kids I have coming up.
End up doing most of my hunting with a beat up 6 cm Kimber.
Yup.

I have multiples of 270 WCF, and 338-06's Last count was nine 270's and three 338-06's.
How do I choose which one to hunt with? Easy, whichever one I feel like.
This year I am going to carry a new to me 1:8 twist 270 shooting 155gr LRX's or another new to me African style 338-06 shooting 210gr TSX's.
Both model 70 classics.

I have a heavy target type rifle with a high magnification scope on it.
I have a short lightweight bolt action carbine for close range brush hunting with a low powered 1-4X variable scope on it
I have a general-purpose bolt-action rifle with a 22" barrel and an all-around 3-9X40 scope on it.
It makes more sense to me for all of them to be in 308 instead of 3 different cartridges. Each of the 3 rifles serve very different roles, but the 308 cartridge is versatile enough to excel in all 3 roles. Makes life a lot simpler for me.
I do have other rifles in other cartridges, but the 308's are my go-to rifles and I don't really NEED anything else. And there is nothing magic about 308. That's just the way I went, someone could put together 3 very different rifles and chamber them all in any of at least a dozen other cartridges and do the same thing.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

This thread makes me feel less looney.
3, in 30-06 5, in 223, 2 bolt action, 3 ARs 2, in 7.62x39, cz 527 and AR platform. 2, in 6.5 CM, 5, 22 LR.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Have lots of multiples (currently 243, 270, 6.8w, 270 wsm, 280, 308, 30-06, 300 win). Luckily I can hunt pigs year round on top of fall hunts so most make it out every now and then. I of course have my favorites, but my personal rule of thumb is that if I don’t hunt a rifle at least once in 5 years goes down the road as I don’t like it as much as I think I do. Helps me keep a sane (for me) number of guns but my multiples list always changes:)

Even after culling the herd the past several years, I still have a few duplicates.
Two 222 Rem. Five 223 Rem/5.56 mm Three 6.5 Grendel Two 6.5 Creedmoor Two 6.5X55 Two 7mm-08 Three 30-30 WCF Three 308 WCF Four 30-06
No rhyme or reason on which one goes to the woods other than weather conditions, terrain and game pursued.
Have plenty of hardware; just need more time in the woods.

I try not to exceed 10 rifles of the same chambering. Except 22 rimfire, it doesn't count. 223/223AI's are always pushing the max. I should just consider them each as different chamberings so the limit would be upped on them. 6.5 CM, and .308's are the next two that I have to watch.

There’s a few more I only have one rifle in, it’s always bothered me to only have one rifle in a particular cartridge, I thought if I was going to keep ammo/components around it needed to be for more than one rifle, starting to reconsider that thought though.

223 or 5.56 Rock River predator pursuit, Rock River M-4, Windham Weapons M-4 30-06 Rem 742 carbine (dads) Sporterized 03, Win 70 Featherweight 300 WBY Vanguard and a MKV I can’t call myself a collector, I seem to accumulate guns I don’t really need just to have them to play with. All of them have Leupold scopes on them. I might hunt 1or 2 days a year. I do take them out to shoot semi regularly.

I have several if not a bunch of .22lr’s bolt, autoloaders, single shot Other than the .223 in several AR’s it seems for one reason or another I fall into 30-06’s. I think mainly because they’re deals when I pick them up. M1 Garands & several bolt actions. .308 too, M1 Garand special, & several bolt guns some for hunting and some for target shooting. I own several creedmoors too, target, and hunting. I have other duplicates as well, but I’m glad I’m not the only one! 😂 Oh dang, 30-30’s too…. I have a problem!

I've divested myself of the majority of my 30-06s. They got spread out among the family. At the highpoint, I had 8.
That leaves my .223s as what I have the most of. They're all set up for different things. One is for hunting coyote. One is for target shooting. One is for plinking. One is for home defense, etc. Each wears different optics, different stocks, and gets different loads.
I have 3 30-30s. One is going to get bored out to something else one of these days.
. . . and of course, you have the 22 LRs, and the 12 GA shotguns. I find I just can't have enough.

Gosh, seems to me that two different rifles chambered for the same cartridge is often smarter than having two of the same rifle chambered differently...

Multiple '06, mostly collector/hang on to type rifles (Dad's original 760, Garand, etc)
User wise, only duplicates are 3 .35 Whelens. 760, 21" Mauser light(er) weight synthetic, 26" Mauser with old school Fajen beautiful wood.
4 .257 Robert's. 760, Kimber Hunter, Light colored wood stock Mauser, Gorgeous dark wood, Schnabel forend Mauser.
All the above get hunted, just depends on the day basically. Stubby Whelen is my go to "don't know what to take" rifle
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, used up, worn out, bottle of Jim Beam in one hand and a .45 in the other, loudly proclaiming WOW-- What a Ride!"

I have 2 308's. A Kimber Hunter and a Tikka T3x. The Kimber goes with me 90% of the time. Nice and light to carry. Also 2 30-30's. A Marlin 336 with a Leupold 2-7 and a Winchester 94 NRA Centennial with a Williams peep sight. They get used about the same as most of the ranges are pretty close where I hunt. I also have several .22's. Depends on what I'm going to do regarding which one goes with me, plinking, target shooting, practice, etc.
Wag more, bark less.
The freedoms we surrender today will be the freedoms our grandchildren will never know existed.
The men who wrote the Second Amendment didn't just finish a hunting trip, they just finished liberating a nation.
