I just finished cooking a new load for the 7mm-08. I'm now getting north of 2900 fps with 139 Hornady SPs and StaBall 6.5. My TC Compass was already on the shortlist for this fall, but shooting 200 fps faster than the previous load puts it at the top.

At the other end of the spectrum, I'm taking the Brown Bess out again this year. I'm now shooting .735 ball over 80 grains of 3F.

Whitetail deer plan on using my Rem 700 CDL 35 Whelen with the Furry 220gr bullet, Rem 700 BBL 270 win using the Hornady 145 ELDX and a new Tikka T3X stainless fluted 6.5x55 with the Hornady 140 gr SST.

It was more happy happenstance than anything else. I had heard good things about StaBall 6.5 and my first attempt with it got me near MAX velocity. I knocked down the load a full grain and got 2840 and then tweaked it back up and got great accuracy at 2930. That's still about 100 fps below the stated MAX.

Good deal, and good luck hunting. I haven't looked at the StaBall load data, but I'm surprised they list a max of over 3000fps with 140's.

Here's the StaBall load up next to the Varget I was using previously. I got less than 2700 from the Varget.

I’ll chase mule deer and with any luck, pronghorn this fall. A Kimber Classic Select .280AI, a Christensen Arms Mesa in 6.5PRC and a Ruger Hawkeye Long Range Hunter in 6.5PRC will get carried. Which gets “used” is a matter of chance.

Probably the RU77 Tang in .338WM. Been on the rack for 12 or more years. Getting pouty.

Also will have a maybe go with the '94. My last kill with it was 1966. It's REALLY pouty!

Mn. deer will be my trusty mid 50's M70 .270 fwt or if snowy a Pre64 M70.MCM in 7x57.
Mt deer will be pre 64 M70 MCM 6.5CM,
MT cow elk Pre 64 M70 MCM 280 AI
If I do happen to draw MT. antelope the same 6.5 CM will likely get the the nod.

Dealers choice of a .300 or 7mm Weatherby Magnum for Colorado elk. .257 Roberts and 7x57 for local deer. Might drag out the .35 Whelen and Savage 99 for an outing or two.
