I finally did it, and traded in the F150 Powerboost for a 2023 Silverado 3.0. This is a CC Standard bed 4x4 RST. Has z71 off road package. GM is offering some pretty crazy rebates right now to clear out the 2023's. Between MSRP Discount and Trade allowance rebate, it was worth over 12k to me. Anxious to see what kind of mileage this thing will end up giving me. Most stuff I read on the new LZ0 3.0 has been very positive. As far as towing, my TT is around 7500 loaded and I pull it only a couple times a year so should be plenty good there. Monday I will take it in for running boards and a soft tonneau cover. The goodyear tires on it are trailrunner at's - im sure not great but they look ok for a factory tire - probably run them at least next couple months and see if I need to replace before hunting season.

Is g fry bag the Chevy turbo 4 cyl? ??? I believe the 2.7 is the small 4 cylinder turbo. This truck is the 3.0 inline turbo deisel.

Good looking truck! That was the color of my last Duramax. I suspect you will get highway mileage about 27-29 mpg, depending on the speed you drive. In my Duramax, the sweet spot seems to be 65 mph, maybe up to 68 mph. After that, the mileage does drop off some, more like 24-25. A steady 60-62 mph will usually get you close to 30 or above, if flat and not hilly.

If those are a P rated tire you will want to upgrade before towing a 7500# trailer.
Possible airbags or a set of Timbrens as well.
Only my opinion and we all know what those are worth.

I asked the service manager about the belt - on the LZ0 its 200k miles - I have never owned a truck that long and the odds say I wont have this one that long to have to worry about it.
Got running boards on it today and decided to bite the bullet and replace the SL tires with LT Falken Wildpeaks for more towing stability. Should have those on by end of week.

Nice unit !!!
FWIW.......... About 2 years ago, a fellow came to the Christmas tree farm in a 2500 or 3500 Ram Cummins. We started talking trucks. He was a Dodge salesman (so he had zero reason to B.S. me). Said a buddy of his had to run from west PA out to the Indianapolis vicinity and back. Had a new 3.0 Duramax. He took he tailgate off (if that makes any difference...... I don't know) and proceeded to make either 35 or 36 mpg for the round trip.
Second-hand info. So...........
I do know that the factory tires are probably going to get you better mpg than huntin' tires. Just took a set of BFG All Terrain TA's off Momma's Yukon. Replaced with Cooper Discoverer AT3's and picked up almost 3 mpg in local running. Crazy..........

Just took a 900 mile round trip up to Vancouver WA - On the way there I averaged 26.1, on the way back 24.9 (strong winds) going about 75-80 MPH.
I will say that with the 10 speed, the motor feels like it has unlimited power - shift points are good and any time I punched it, it got up and went.

I have BFG AT on my Duramax and it does well in the mpg department. Not sure how it would do with highway all-season tires

Nice truck....But a little color on the inside wouldn't be a bad thing. Mines all black and you can fall asleep without even trying.

I agree, I think this is the best all-around motor in the GM line up for the average truck owner. Nothing agains the 5.3 and 6.2 but this motor has a great combination of power and economy

I have a 24 Trailboss ordered with the 3.0. Looks like a strike may delay its arrival. Everything iv read about this motor and trans looks pretty promising and the fuel mileage i hear is very good.

My current 3.0 is a Trail Boss. I thought maybe the mileage would be a bit less than the prior RST version but this one is actually a bit better.

2200 miles and 6 weeks into my 3.0 - I love it...I am averaging around 24 MPG for my intown driving. Got a combined 27.5 MPG on a trip to SLC and back. Lots of power, smooth transmission. My only gripe is the start/stop, but I am ordering a plug in module to disable that.

I dislike that start/stop "feature" on any vehicle! Glad my 6.6 Duramax doesn't have it or I'd be disabling it. Seems like that would be tough on a diesel, shutting down at every stop sign. Glad you're enjoying your truck, that 10 speed is sweet.

You can shut off the start/stop function by a switch on the dash Yeah, but it's better to not have to mess with it. I used the 4D Tech start/stop eliminator on my gasser. It leaves the start/stop in whichever mode you leave it in (I've left it disabled since installing it).

Nice, be on the lookout for rear window leaks though. Sometimes its the tray the power window slides in that cracks, sometimes its the valence that holds the break light above the window, seal busts and water gets in. They say flex from lifts and car washes expedite the issue. Had mine replaced within the 1st six months.

Just keeps you from having to hit button, it's habit now for me, first thing I do after cranking trunk. Plus some dealerships claim it voids warranty when adding tuners, I'd definitely run it by your service dept before doing so.

I hate the goodyears.
I popped two with less than 10,000 miles on them in the same day once on a red dog rock trail.
Never again.

I just bought a new Chevy work truck (2 door with an 8' box) with the 5.3 V8. This is my second one with that engine. If I wasn't in a hurry I could get 19 plus mpg. I was pretty much a Ford owner prior to my last Chevy.

Duckster, that's fkn awful! 16 mpg from a tundra hybrid. Garbage. To put this in perspective, pulled 15.7 mpg 600 miles roundtrip, loaded with 1300 lbs of dog kibble, blazeking king woodstove, and 500 lbs of tools and chainsaws/milling equipment/winches. Truck is 9000 lbs empty. Literally every compartment and my entire rear cab was full to the roof. Had to run the tires at 80 psi. 60 psi wasn't enough. This was mostly hilly as fk taylor highway gravel to Eagle, on the Yukon river.

Just got back from a nearly 800 mile round trip from Boise to Spokane and back thru the Idaho Mountains...Just a bit better fuel mileage than a "Hybrid Toyota".... And this is with a 2" level and heavier 8 ply BFG tires. I can certainly live with that. Also don't mind being able to go around 625 miles on a full tank.

Just returned from a elk scouting trip this last weekend, 1550 miles with a 26.7 average MPG. Ave speed for the trip was 57 mph due to a lot of the drive being Interstate at 78 mph

The guy down the block got a 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid and the mileage numbers he was telling me were borderline unbelievable. I suppose if you just do short electric powered around town stuff you too could get 70 mpg with over 40 average on the road.
My other auto is a .45

For those who own the 3.0 duramax, are you factoring in the higher price of Diesel as well as Def ? It looks like a midget mobile even next to a Honda Ridgeline. I sat in the Lariat , would not wish that on anyone on a long trip.

Last time I did the math, I was still ahead with the higher cost of diesel vs. gas. Not by a ton but ahead. Have not run the numbers recently. These little diesels don't use much DEF, in my experience. Usually good for about 6500 miles
