Load was 28 grains of W 748.

chronographed a couple of 100 grain Hornady SP today with same powder charge.. MV at 2850 fps.

Recoil is pretty low....

Cases resized easily, and primer pockets were tight upon reloading the brass... 8th firing on these cases.

All said and done the ever ageless 6.5x55 is a strong choice. Try some 123 gr or 139 gr Scenars.

I had open hart surgury, I built a 6mm Mongoose 18" prior to the surgury to produce a very low recoiling 100 grain bullet shooter. It is very close to a 6mm TCU. You trim 223 LC brass .050 and can load leavy bullets in an AR-15 mag at 3.000 fps. The gas operation mitigates the recoil. Easy to form and reload for. Mad Dog Wapins Systems (MDWS) sells the 1-8 twist SS barrels and dies. Mine shoots .3 inches with 80s. Good luck.

Hunted with a guy that only used a 243 win for deer and bears, cleanly killed bears up to 500 lbs with it.

I was charged by a bear weighing 500 pounds or so, when I was 14, out hunting at Ft Bragg.

Supposedly there wasn't any bears in a long ways from there...

but he charged me and my brother in an opening in the brush, in a swamp...

My brother was sitting on a log and fell off of it... by the time he got up, it was all over.

The bear changed, I was carrying a Remington 870, with deer slugs in it.

Pumped it 5 times into the bear's head and front chest. After the 5 th shot, he dropped dead.

I never felt the recoil of that 12 gauge at the time.

A 6.8AR kicks very lightly and I’ve been impressed by the 90gr gold dots. I’ve got a Remington 700 also in 6.8 that is also a real pussy cat. I bought a couple hundred 115 gold dots I’ll try out went the 90’s run out. Too bad the 6.8 isn’t more popular. It kicks little but kills very well.

A 250 Savage with anything from 100 to 120 grain bullet should do the trick even with reduced loads at 100-yards.
