My ‘07 LBZ crew has a matching leer topper, and I just added a decked system. I’m now contemplating either adding a rack to the topper or ladder rack that mounts with the topper, OR ditching the topper for some sort of bed rack that allows me to carry taller items in the bed area, while extending far enough forward to allow for carrying a canoe or kayaks on top while pulling my TT. I’m just not sure which way to go or what’s out there. I generally keep an ice sled or two in the back for redneck ‘cargo glides’ and to keep deer blood off of the bed/sea deck pad on my decked drawers….though I’m generally using my SxS to haul animals and coolers are in the truck for processed meat, if needed. Will see an occasional dog kennel or two. Just laying out what I foresee a need for. Be nice to have a place for my high lift, water for the dogs, etc that didn’t take up room in my drawers, but I’m not into urban outfitter coolness, just practicality. Wind noise from racks over the cab would be a concern.

I need some bumper ideas, as well….HD and high lift compatible, I’d imagine.

TIA for any ideas/advice.

I’ve had Leer toppers on my pickups for about 30 years. All have had the Leer roof racks. I have hauled ladders, deer stands, canoes, and other things. They work well. I don’t know about cargo baskets. I always ordered my toppers with the racks included. I guess the dealer could install them, but I don’t actually know that.

Last year I was on a 2 lane highway. There was a pickup coming at me but still a ways ahead. There were a number of cars ahead going my way. I could see each of them swerving to the right as they passed the oncoming pickup. When he got to me, I saw that he had a ladder on a ladder rack that had come loose, It was sticking out 90 degrees and 1/3 of the way across my lane. We were all going too fast to flag him down.
