I have a SS Rem700 SA that is currently a 243. It does not get used much. I am thinking about having a different barrel screwed on. My first though is a second 338Fed or maybe see if the 6.5 CM is all that it is hyped up to be. It would be for fun shooting and deer hunting. The other rifles I have in my safe are the previously mentioned 338Fed, plus a 7mm-08 and a 30-06. I have varmint rifles too and not interested in another.

What are your thought on either the Fed or a CM? Any other suggestions?

If you already have a .338 Fed you're happy with there's not much need for another.

The 6.5 CM is about the perfect round for deer...not that more or less won't work, it's just a good fit. It's fun at the range and lots of ammo available.

Staying above .224 rounds, the 6 CM would be another to consider for deer and range.

Heck I’d leave it a 243, great cartridge with very good availability.

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

Flip a coin. Both are pretty fun.

I've always wanted a 25 Souper (25-308). It just sounds like a nice easy medium & there are new hi BC bullets starting to come out in .257 if you're into that kind of thing. Lapua 260 brass should neck down .007" easy enough & last a long time. I just snagged a 257 Roberts Improved so my 1/4 bore itch is scratched for a while.

If you didn't already have the 338, a 358 is another good option. Hell, it's still a good choice. Lapua 308 brass lasts about forever.

I'd say CM, more fun and cheaper to shoot.

I'd skip the manbun.
I shoot against 6 and 6.5 manbuns every month.
They don't impress me.
For the 6 or the 6.5 I'd run a 6.5x 47 case.
If I wanted to go bigger.
Id do a 260 case.

if you are going a new barrel a 243, 243AI, 7mm-08 or 7mm-08AI and others will run right in with that CM loaded appropriately in a similar twist barrel. If you want a CM though you better just go for it. 6.5CM does shoot well, I have had 2 of them. Most of these cartridges are really just a variation of an older cartridge but taking advantage of the newer bullets, barrels and twist rates and powders. I guess they are all fun. Haha.
