I saw more .410 ammo on the shelves today than I've seen in the last few years. Cases of #6 shot and smaller, 2 1/2" and 3" loads, buckshot and slugs. Federal, Remington and Winchester. I wanted some #4, but that was missing, so I swallowed my pride, took out a second mortage, and got enough #6 for years of squirrel hunting. It'll probably pattern better than #4 anyway.

Hopefully the drought is easing. But .410 is costing about 60% more than 12 gauge. But if you have none, like me, you either buy it when its available or have a gun with no ammo.

Glad YOU'RE seeing it.

If you can find ANY here, locally, it's a buckshot defense load in a box of 5.

The place I got this will ship. At least their site suggests they will. Some of what I saw isn't listed on their website, so maybe that's in-store only. But the #6 I got is. It's expensive but from what I'm reading it's the market price.

Just looked. They do, indeed. $27.99 per box.

I've got enough #6 for now. I much prefer #4 for squirrels.

After getting a tip from another thread, I ordered a case of target loads from bluecollarreloading.com. They had other stuff too. My only regret is that had I waited another day to order, I would’ve gotten free shipping and a similar price on 3” #7.5s instead of the shorty shells. They ship really fast.

I bought my .410 for turkeys, but did secure enough ordinary shells to hold me as well as various defense loads and slugs. I really like that little Henry.

When I bought the #6s, I bought 5 boxes (of 5) of Winchester Super X .410 slugs. Not sure what I will use them for but anxious to try them. That's one load that always seems to be in stock at my LGS, even though they are thew same price as 12 gauge Super X slugs.

I shoot Brennekes in my Henry. Excellent accuracy. I really like the clean holes they cut in the target with the little notches that match the slug. Oughta be pretty good killers.

Not much 410 on the shelves around here but what little you do find is going to cost you.

Not sure why anyone would own a 410 if they didn't have the tooling to load 410.

Since I got my .410 a couple of years ago, I haven't been able to locate any 3 inch #9's.
About as close as I can get is $6/shell TSS #9 or the short shells in #8. ...and even the #8's are hard to locate! 😖

Plenty of .410 around up here now that I've been paying attention for it since I just bought one.

Not sure they make a 3" shell with anything larger than #7 1/2.

I don't use my 410 a whole lot but I do have a small supply of Federal 3" #6 shot and some Federal 3" 7 1/2 shot. Found out shooting pigeons for my dog's that 3" 7 1/2 shot in the 410 works very well. Seem's I even used it on a few chukar. Interesting thing about 7 1/2 shot. No matter what shotgun you shoot it out of, it's still 7 1/2 shot. Used it a lot on wild chukar and pheasant from my old 12ga and 16ga. Used target loads!

I’ve been finding plenty up in the city. Worst part is it’s $20 a box on average.

Bought some Clever 2.5” 7 1/2s for $18.75 a box. They’re poor quality and likely over loaded, they pierce primers and the brass is loose on the hull after they’re fired, they stick in the chamber of my boy’s old Stevens 410 about half the time too. Always had great luck with the brand until 2 years ago when I bought a flat of 20ga dove loads that had the same issues in all of our guns. Should have known better but pickings have been slim for 410.

Bought 2.5” Winchester AA 8s for $20.98 a box. They’re much better, 100 percent reliable with no stuck empties and no pierced primers.

Also found Fiocchi 3” 7 1/2s same place that had the AAs. They were $26 a box so I opted for the AAs.

Really need to find a lightweight single shot 28ga to cut down for him and quit fooling with the 410. I always swore that if I had a kid I wouldn’t saddle him with a 410 to learn on like I had to. But when the time came it was what was available that was light enough he could handle it and cheap enough I could cut the stock down to 11” without worrying.

Don’t waste your money on that Hornady CD stuff. Useless in my Henry.

OTOH, Federal 5-pellet 000 3” throws a pattern that I can cover with my hand at 30 yards with a MOD tube. MOD is turning out to be the all-arounder for me. I did pretty well yesterday with it and those Rio target loads. My friend’s Fox either didn’t like it, or he was having a bad day. I thinks it’s a Full/Full.

I went ahead and ordered 4 boxes of Federal #4. I'll pattern #6 and #4. I just like #4 best. It shoots through squirrels and will break the biggest bones they have.

YOWZA!!!

Try here: https://www.sgammo.com/catalog/shotgun-ammo-sale/410-gauge-ammo

About $21 or so/box... Even so, that's some spendy ammo for a little bore... Now I'm regretting selling my .410 MEC loader... eek
