Took me only 5 years to draw a Colorado moose tag. I’ve always liked moose hunting more than I like wishing I could go moose hunting so I’ve just put in for cow tags..

Long story short…. I was a very blessed man yesterday.. my biggest gift is how much my 13 year old daughter still likes to hang with dad, and how much help she is when the chips are down…

Used my 1981 vintage Rem 700 BDL .300 Win Mag shooting 175 gr. LRX..

I don’t want to get political in this post but this moose area is an area designated to be ground zero for one of the wolf re-introducing areas… There are an estimated 150 moose total in the Colorado Flattops…. it’s going to suck seeing what few moose Colorado has disappear to feed the wolves… Calf recruitment is going to drop like a rock… I’m glad I got to experience it now…

Looks like you had a great hunt with your daughter, congrats! Love to see older rifles out there still getting it done as well.

Very cool! Did you keep the pelt? It looks very nice.

Agree about the wolves. I've elk hunted that area before and always had more moose sightings than elk.

Congrats!
Here in Idaho we're limited to 1 bull and 1 cow in a lifetime. I got my bull close to 20 years ago. Getting a cow tag is another issue. There's only 1 unit in the state with cow tags - all of 3 of them this year. This unit happens to be about 50 miles from me. My wife and I go UTV trail riding there on a regular basis and we see moose almost every trip. The odds of drawing are about 3% and I'm too old to keep trying year after year, especially since applying for a moose tag means I can't apply for anything else. So, I'll have to be content with cow elk.

Congrats on your luck in drawing the tag and filling it with your daughter by your side, that's just awesome.
Michigan put wolves on Ilse Royal I believe to control the moose population BUT heaven forbid they generate funds by selling tags no that's way to sensibile. We have them in the Upper Peninsula also and there a pain. I carry a Kinber 1911 when I'm grouse hunting just in case of a wolf encounter

Awesome! Great hunt in more ways than 1. You wont forget it and neither will your daughter. You know that already I'm sure, but that's the kind of stuff that sticks.

Congratulations to You and Your Daughter……a lifetime of memories right there!

And also not to be political……but, you may have taken one of the last moose available to a hunter in that area! memtb
