I have one on the way to me.
I picked up some 158gr Hornady soft points, which I hope will be a little less explosive than pistol bullets, fired out of the 22" barrel.
Anyone else have suggestions for good loads in longer barrel .357 carbines?

Patrick,
I loaded the 180 gr XTP for my son's Henry using 13.5 grs of IMR-4227. A doe and a hog fell, as expected The bullets may still be running.

180gr Swift A Frame wouldn’t be a bad choice.

Pat, with the 158 XTP in a .357 Martini I had very good results with 14.5gr. 4227, and 16.5gr. Lil Gun. I then shifted to .357 Maximum in it and AA1680 became my best friend (but with 180 and 200 grain bullets).

180 gr. XTP, over H110/Mag primer:
Starting load of 13.5 grn. working up to 15.5 grn..
The factory Federal AE 158 gr. JSP also works surprising well.

I use 18.0 of LG in both my Henry SS and my 620. 19gr is still within pressure limits according to an article by Brian Pearce. Had them out yesterday and dialed the Henry in with 18gr loads. Didn’t have enough with 19 to thoroughly determine its accuracy vs. 18 (and the guy next to me was whanging away with a 14.5” AR), but the cases fell right out. Might be hitting a hair higher, but not much.
As Pearce suggests, I’m using the XTP FPs in the rifle to avoid blowing stuff up.
Lil Gun is still pretty dang loud, even in the rifle.
BTW, nice snag on the Ruger!
What fresh Hell is this?

158gr XTPs, FP and HP.
Discovered that the Henry SS, like some lever actions, does better if I rest my hand on the front bag, then the forend on my hand. This one’s ready to hunt.

I shoot 158 gr jacketed soft points and a full charge of H110, clocking in at 1775 fps from my 22" barrel. My rifle loves it, deer, not so much lol.

This is my 357 Super Mag (Max if you must) it will do 2,000 fps with a 200. Suggest you look into and consider having the 357 Mag chamber on a #1 re-cut to a Super Mag. You can still shoot the 357 Mag in it, but the Super Mag makes a much better rifle in a single shot.

Kinda gotta agree, but only if it doesn't detract from value of the originally chambered rifle. I too can sling 200 grain cast at 2000fps from my 26" barreled Martini Cadet, but I get better accuracy at 1850-1900fps so that's the level I stick to.

I have one on the way to me. Is it a CHP gun? Yes. Have it in hand, in fact. Above average wood, nice condition, and the original box.

I have one on the way to me. Is it a CHP gun? IIRC the factory .357s were a one time run. Some got the CHP rollmark, a lesser number did not. Consequently the non roll marked fetch more.

I used a 180 gr XTP for deer out of a 10" TC Contender in 357 Max, that bullet should be good out of your rifle in 357 Mag with the longer barrel.
