Yes Sir. I'm talking as light as I can possibly build it. I'll most likely make a mold and build a nice thin trim light mountain style sporter stock, because that's just the way I do things like this. Been needing to do that anyway.
My tactical stock mold would be nice if I used a light fill, but it's not the mountain-esque hunting rifle I want this 6x45 to be. I'm getting older by the day and these Appalachian Mountains just seem to be getting steeper by the day too.

The books are getting to people so much faster than even a couple of years ago. I'm looking forward to hearing your impressions of it.

Please don't take this wrong, Steve. I'm not questioning the sense of this project.

Why? What was the impetus for it? What need does this fill?

Let me take a stab at answering this from my perspective. 6X45 would allow you to hunt deer with a 223-ish rig in a state that does not allow 223 REM as a legal round. My home ground, Kentucky, allows 223 REM already.

There are a few reasons.

Bumping the 223 to 6mm gives it more punch. With an 85 or 90 gr. bullet, it shoots flatter than a 30/30 and it also uses less powder. About 8 grains less, give or take. 223 brass is plentiful and less expensive than 30/30 as well.

With the primer and powder shortages of the past few years, those are important considerations.

The 30-30 isn’t a hard kicking cartridge, but the 6x45mm produces even less recoil, so it is easier to control.

And the big one for me, because it is fun to play with!

The book was a good read and informative. Have you tried any of your own 6mm bullets for accuracy.

The story behind it is lengthy, but I'll keep it to the point. After I finished putting together my walkabout rifle, I needed to check everything out and zero the scope. I loaded up 20 or 25 of my 76 gr. home made bullets and took off for the range. This was the first target I shot after zeroing the scope. 0.530 inches. It always shoots around .5 of an inch at 100 yd.

The bullets are made from J4 jackets and do very well.

Seems like a small niche market, how many books do you think that you'll sell?

Honestly, I don’t know. I don’t write to sell large quantities or to satisfy the main stream. Just to satisfy a personal need.

I make old timey jacketed bullets from rimfire cases and improve on older designs. I install 1 in 9 twist 225 Winchester rifle barrels like what should have been done to begin with.

It’s about whatever itch I need to scratch, like re-doing 303 British rifles with .308 barrels or shooting single shot 7.62x39 rifles with 308 diameter barrels.
