I just found a really clean marlin 336w with the laminate stock for $298 so I bought it. It is unfortunately a remlin but it is really clean and if it shoots ok it'll make a good working 30-30.

However, I've been casting a bunch the past few years and have been doing it for my JM 45/70 guide and my jm 444p outfitter. I already have a nice 336 jm 30/30 and a blr 358. Seems like I'm just missing a 375 win or 38/55.

I'm thinking about sending this new remlin to jes for a 375 reborn. I looked at his 405 jes but I would rather stuck with something a bit more common. I'm really leaning 375 but I'll go see how it shoots as a 30/30 first.

I forgot to add that the same shop had an older maybe 1970s model marlin 45/70 with about a 22" barrel and a half length tube mag. It was pretty worn and had been carried a lot but they only wanted $499 for it. I was pretty sure its worth more than that but I don't know the older marlins well. If someone's interested I'll tell them we're it's at. It's in Utah.

Been thinking about the same thing and have an old donor Marlin 30#30, 375win dies, and bullet mould. I've just been to lazy to get it done.

375win can at least be made from 30-30 brass and from what Tim Sundles of Buffalo bore informed me it performs extremely well on the larger critters.

You won’t regret it. I had it done several years ago. It’s a great 150 plus yard thumper. JES does great work. The sierra 200gr bullets are hell on deer. Hard to find right now but have also had good luck with hard cast.

IIRC, Weagle had one done and posted positive comments about it.

Good advice I always ignore....

OP, put some factory ammo through it, it may just shoot one of them very accurately. If so, it's worth keeping as is or selling to somebody who will use it.

What is JES price running these days on a 375 re-bore?

I talked to him about a year ago but I'd expect some increases by now.

I shoot two old falling block Srevens in 38-55 it’s a wonderfully accurate cartridge and has been a Schuetzen winner for years from black powder through to smokeless transition. So.I too love the 375:Win. It will handle more pressure, heavier bullets and with properly sized and bore riding cast bullets is a mid-weight contender.even in micro groove Marlin barrels. It’s got a great slow roll recoil and pleasant boom that is deadly on deer sized game and I’d guess elk within 100 yards or more. It’s a fun cartridge

Yeah he's up a little bit from when I talked to him.

Still money well spent.
