We had mile markers on some highways in Canada but it is now illegal to use the word "mile" when referencing distance in Canada. Thus those mile markers which remain on the Alaska highway are identified as "Historic" markers. In truth, they don't mean a lot anymore because the route has been altered in numerous places.
There was some talk of changing the name of the town, "100 Mile House", to the metric equivalent, but it gained little traction. In addition to the imperial distance measurement in the name, some felt the reference to "house" might be an offensive reminder to those who don't have a house of their own. In the end though, the proposal to change the name to "160 Kilometer Structure" received no support; save that of LGBTQ2 proponent, Michelle "call me Michael" Farris.
