Apples and oranges, they are/were both great.

Mr Straight does have genuine cowboy roots. My son is familiar with him from my son’s place of employment, said he’s a down to earth, regular guy.

That was my impression when we stood next to each other on a catering line one time. He’s kinda short and only has about as much hair as I do.

We let him get his picture took with us anyway (sorta grainy it’s been copied and sent so many times)

Yep. He’s a little fella. Met him at a local BBQ joint once when his son was competing in the TX HS Rodeo Championship in my old home town. And he’s very down to earth. Damn good team and calf roper too.
Nothing fake about George Strait. He’s the real deal.

Cool picture Mike !!!

I like plenty of George Straight songs, hell albums. But it’s never not fun to flick the nose of a tejano that thinks he’s any kinda king.

Here ya go Gruff:

https://www.countrythangdaily.com/billboard-hot-country-songs-chart/

“ George Strait…
Indeed, George Strait is known as the “King of Country.” Also, he is one of the most influential recording artists of all time. He, on the other hand, is one of the artists to bring country music back to its roots. And as mentioned above, he holds the record of having the most number one singles. His last number one single on the Billboard was “River of Love” recorded on April 18, 2009.

Meanwhile, “Fool Hearted Memory” was his very first number one and was cited on August 28, 1982. Nevertheless, George Strait keeps recording and releasing songs. With this, he’ll surely put some more. “Amarillo by Morning” is his trademark single.”

George Strait had 44 number 1 Country Music Hits.
And that’s just “Billboard Top 100 Hits”

Here’s the real total:

“ The statistic are dizzying: The King of Country Music has produced 60 No. 1 singles (more than anyone else in any genre) and 33 platinum or multi-platinum-selling albums. He's sold more than 70 million albums, and owns more than 60 major entertainment industry awards.”

George Jones only had 13.

By the way here’s a few other Texan’s that made the list of top # 1 Country Hits:

Buck Owens : 21
Kenny Rodgers : 21
Willie Nelson :20
Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn : 20
DonWilliams : 17
Waylon Jennings : 15
Clint Black : 11
Rosanne Cash : 11
Dan Seals : 11

Not to mention 😜 other TX CM Legends like:
Ernest Tubb
Bob Wills
Tex Ritter
Gene Autry
Lefty Frizzell
Ray Price
Barbara Mandrell
ect…

And ……… oh yea, that fella you mentioned, ole George Jones……….. he's from ……. Texas. 🤠

Neither wrote their own music for the most part. Both are credited for co writing a few, but not their hits. Alan Jackson is in another class. He wrote the majority of his stuff.

How did he die?

Was he at a bowling alley unarmed?

Soft spoken man. One of the rare ones that is humble in his success. Had a girlfriend that dragged me to one of his concerts. Martina McBride opened the show. Had a great time. I was impressed. For whatever reason I find modern country to be obnoxious but he was great.
