If in the shoes of one of the Israelis when attacked by hamas, if armed I’d fight and hope to kill at least one of them first, better yet two and go to my death the winner and having made a stand.
If unarmed I’d comply. There’s no real fighting back or making a stand in a meaningful way against that if unarmed. Better to risk death and a long shot of being released later than to guarantee death that moment waging a meaningless noncompliance fistfight while outnumbered by armed terrorist.

I think people desperately hope for a miracle and don't honestly think they will die until it's too late to do anything effective. I would not lay my head on the chopping block. They are at least going to have to work for it.
Other than that, I can't say I might not make the same mistakes someone else does. I would fight if I could but might not just attack without hope of success if there was any chance not to die. Same here! I'm not going to charge into for sure death. I would hold out and try and look for an opening. But fight for sure. That's only natural.
