Didn’t want to hijack BK’s thread more than we already did….

10 of us went to SD for the opening 3 days. Myself and dad (ole_270), my contractor buddy who’s been getting me in trouble with my wife from before we got married in 2009 (we went bird hunting in Northern Missouri the weekend before I got married, and he’s been on her shiyt list since then), his daughters boyfriend. A former coworker and his daughter and her boyfriend. The fourth year we’ve gone, excluding the 2 boyfriends. Different area, 3 weeks earlier, tons of crops still in the field and hot conditions.

That said, it was a great hunt. Lots of good shooting. Lots of poor shooting. The boyfriends got their first wild birds, the one had only shot a box of shells at clays prior and did some good shooting.

Sunday night sunset was nice

His daughters boyfriends first bird. Spoiled to be loaned a Beretta 391 Gold that’ll likely be his if he sticks around.

Dad with the first sharp tail he’s ever seen. First one I’ve seen up close.

Chicken was flying with the sharpies in the same flock.

My new to me Ugartechea 20, bought it back in August. Sweet handling lightweight little gun.

Smiles left after walking drilled Milo for a mile with only 2 birds flushing.

This mile push was better. Grass to hailed on corn to grass to sunflowers over that mile. It was worth the walk.

Ole_270 and I after that walk. If I could have shot pointed hens I’d have needed a bird boy. Of course most of the roosters jumped at 80 yards. 2 stuck around for me though.

Big John , used to work for my buddy in his stainless fab shop, who lives up there and had the access was a good host and a great shot at his blocking spots. This was a half mile shelter belt push. Dad said probably 2 dozen escaped on foot through a pasture out of range.

Only 5 of us hunted Monday. And it was worth skipping work.

That's really cool. Thanks for telling your story. Heat and corn make for tough hunting. The heat is gone but the corn might be around awhile.

That is fantastic. What quarter of the state did you hunt?
