I have three of these: I'm sure there is a practical use for them, but I cannot think of any right now. It seems like a waste to me to toss them though. Can you think of any practical uses for them aside from building a ghillie suit? ETA: the ghillie suit thing was a joke

is that burlap or woven plastic? I haven't seen any burlap bags in several years but lots of woven plastic with seed and feed...
a lot of guys use the woven plastic and cut slots in it and put whatever their preferred fish chume is in it and drop it in the water.. not exactly sure how legal that is but some do it

I've used them as fish bags when I don't bring a cooler on the boat (short 1/2 day trips). Keeps fish moist and cool and they don't slide around on the deck.

A ghillie suit? Maybe if you’re a sniper assaulting an Asian market but I know what you mean about not throwing them out, I tend to find usefulness in useless crap too. 😂

Put onions, garlic, bulbs and the like in them and hang in a dry place where they won't freeze for storage.

I chop up wood for cooking in my brazier and use them tow sacks to tote the wood in. They are great for toting stuff in!

Split them, then sake them on hill sides to hold grass seed in place. They rot and can be cut over.

We use burlap to put fish in. Get them wet and they stay cool. Good for blackfish.

We called it a "tow" sack. We also called it a "croaker" sack. A local coffee chain sells their coffee bean sacks at their stores. Atwoods Farm & Ranch sells burlap bags for $5. They also sell the coffee bean sacks that have been slashed opened. Those are $1.79. I buy those to fuel my bee smoker! Easy to light and lasts quite a while!

I take a similar sack with me to the liquor store. Their paper sacks tear too easy. The handles are handy, too, as I use a cane in one hand.

Recently I was looking at one just like that thinking, “It looks too good to throw away. I wonder what I can use it for?” My wife saw me looking at it and before I said a word she said, “If you don’t know what you’re going to use it for, throw it away.”
She knows me pretty well.

You older guys will remember the most famous gunny sack of them all. She made Idaho's potatoes even more famous. It's been about 70 years since she wore that. There are several versions of the story behind it. One is that her producer said she'd even look good in a burlap sack, then set out to prove it. Another version is that she wore something to a celebrity ball and some big wig said that she'd look better in a burlap sack. She took it to heart and wore one. Obviously it was tailored for her figure.

just as a side note, that is the only rice we buy.
basmati rice is the best, and while Royal may not be the best brand, I do like that it comes in a burlap bag. We're the same, we don't know what to do with the bags but it seems a waste to throw them away. For awhile the kids used them to hold craft supplies and the like.
my mother was from the era of growing up with printed flour bags that would be turned into dresses. The bags used to be plain, but when the manufacturers found out people were using them to make clothing for their kids, they started putting patterns on them. I'm thankful I never knew that kind of poverty.

Small ones can be used to store tire chains. They allow the chains to dry out while keeping other stuff clean.

When I was very young, we kids somehow learned that burlap was made from hemp and one of our "brighter" types said that hemp is actually marijuana. He proceeded to shred some and roll it into a cigarette. One tiny puff is all it took to convince me his idea was a non-starter with me. (And no, it did not get any of us high. Violently sick, yes.)
Today, it's mainly made from Jute, and an alternate name for the cloth is "gunny". Hence, gunny sacks.

I've used them as an aid when home butchering a hog. You cover the body hair with the sack and pour hot water over to loosen the hair for scraping. If I remember correctly if water is too hot it will set the hair but properly applied, you can scrape it off easily..

Put your rope, bungee cords, jumper cables, and ratchet tie downs in them. Keep on your ATV trailer or truck tool box. Store your shop rags in them, packing materials like the stryrofoam peanuts. The idea for onions and garlic was great. If you have green peanuts, put them or pecans in them. Too good to throw out. Put pine rosin “lighter knots” or fire starter kindling.

I've used the plastic versions as ground clothes for the outdoor shower on an Idaho elk hunt, (from feed sacks) and regularly at my remote cabin (dog food shipments when I was in Kotzebue). Easy on the feet and water proof/drains right through. I've several put by- just in case... . Couple burlaps too - no idea what I'll ever use them for.
