First time I’ve ever got one at noon. This guy was down the ridge below me and out of sight, and started raking on a tree so loud about 11:30 that I heard him from about 100 yards away. He must have gave that tree hell. I was almost considering moving out the ridge farther right before I heard him. Thought about grunting or doe bleating, but being on the ground, and in a semi open spot I nixed that idea. Glad I waited. Now my rifle season will be nothing but time in her blind with my daughter, or doing pushes for her. 😎

Congrats.
There is a reason I like to sit all day once Halloween rolls around.
I have killed 5 of my last 6 bucks between 11 and 2.

Very nice deer. Weather/rut withstanding, 0900-1300 have always been my best time for good bucks.

This next couple weeks it pays to hunt dark to dark. Great buck!
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Thanks fellas! I never get too excited about getting out early in PA archery season. Not much moving, and usually too hot and too many starving skeeters. About the last 10 years I haven’t hunted until the DST change, or close to it. I can’t remember the last time I shot a buck in October, but first or second week of November has been money lately! Good luck to you men! Happy Hunting.😎

Outstanding Doc. Gun or bow or x-bow? And from the ground no less. Your camo must be working. I get picked off way too often sitting on the ground, happened again yesterday. Are you using some kind of a blind?

Thanks guys! On the ground, no blind, just happened to be standing between 3 trees that made up about a 6 foot triangle. Buck never even looked my direction. Wind was coming up the ridge, so very favorable for the hollow side I was hunting, as he angled up to my left from below me. Barnett C5 Wildcat Extreme crossbow, Easton Carbon Power Bolt, Muzzy 3 blade 125 grain broadhead at 48 yards. Buck went about 45 yards before piling up. 😎

Wow that's just a pretty buck. I'd love to get at least one good whitetail before I die. Very nice buck doc.

The thing about getting a "nooner" is to be there when one comes by. With our WI. gun season lots of guys sit on their stand until late morning and then get up to warm up and or go back to camp to get ready for lunch. If you have the patience to stick it out and have a sandwich in your pack for your lunch, lots of deer get bumped out of their beds by those walking around guys. You can hear more shots then at mid day and you know those deer probably didn't decide to get up and move themselves.

Thanks gents. Most days I hunt in rifle season, I’ll take a lunch or snacks to stay out all day to have a better chance to ambush one someone else may have busted loose while they were heading in. I don’t think that was the case with this buck, as I’m pretty sure I was the only hunter on the property that day, and didn’t see any hints of neighboring hunting land having any pressure that day.
I’m going to make an effort to try and find the tree he was beating the crap out of before he made his way up the ridge to me and take some pics of it.
Happy hunting, and good luck.😎
