I knew that I had this somewhere in my junk but could never find it. I stumbled across it today and figured I better take pictures of it before I lose it again. All hand sketched and dated 1954. I thought it was pretty cool.

That's very interesting! I never saw one. I wonder if it was an in-house manual used in the factory. Ted?

I am not sure. It is virtually new. I thought it was "cool" when I got it sometime back. A piece of history that needed to be preserved.

I have a copy of that, as well. In addition, I have similar versions for the Model 12 and the Model 42. Both done by the same person that did the Model 70 book. He was a gifted artist. I can’t imagine the time invested in all those drawings.

So there are others by the same author? Shoot! Now I may need to start collecting them.

This book identified as Appendix 11, page 338 to page 354 appears in part in The Rifleman’s Rifle.
The book has also been reproduced.

160user: I have a few original copies of this book (manual?) for the "Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle". And I believe that the pre-64 Winchester factory folks made "Sequence Of Take-Down Manuals" for virtually every 1940'ish to 1963'ish Rifle and shotgun they made.
I have seen them (and own most) for Winchester Model 77's, 69's, 72's, 75's, 94's, 64's, 61's, 88's, 67's, 12's and 42's.
I have also seen somewhat poorly copied aftermarket copies of those originals for sale over the years - lots of great information in all of them.
Enjoy.

The original versions of these books had glossy card stock covers. The reprints have covers of heavy construction paper.

Interesting. Mine is not hardcover but I have had it since the early to mid 90's.

160user: Not to be picking to many "nits" but the photo's of the manual you show are marked February 27th 1958 and March 4th 1958 - SO..... I am assuming the manuals were made sometime after those dates in 1958 not in 1954 like you posted?
What do you think?
Or did your finger just tap 1954 instead of 1958? Or maybe you got a "second" or "revised" edition manual?
Either way, I repeat, these manuals are full of information and I have referred to them on several occasions.

I will try and post a pic of my original copy. I think these were made in the late 1960's or early 1970's by Winchester when they were owned or affiliated with Olin. There is another old pamphlet that I have, Sporterizing Military Rifles from the Williams Company in 1963.

Honestly, I never noticed the dates on the photos, just the one at the front of the book. Good eye!

I got my books from Cornells today. They did a great job of packing them and they didn't waste any time doing it.
