I could care less if it were a Browning or a pre 64. The guy is wanting it to go to a young hunter. That is why he has it priced so low. You guys can buy it if you want, but I see it as bad mojo, if you are buying for personal gain when the sellers intention is pure. It's like bragging about buying a pre 64 supergrade from a widow and paying her $300 for it. I just don't do that kind of schidt. Carry on though.

Yep I agree Lawrence, I giving more rifles away to new hunters and kids over the years. One was my SIL she got into hunting with her boyfriend now husband. Gave her a classic model 70 featherweight in a 270 W. Man she’s killed 2 elk with it couple mule deer. Her husband wanted a Winchester bad, so I worked a trade with AkWolverine for a stainless classic in a 270W. This year he shot his deer and elk with it he was beaming from ear to ear. My buddy in Montana his son was doing great in school, I sent him a 270 W in a model 70 pf that kid was smiling ear to ear. I tell people life is too short not to own a model 70 😁.

So true. My current only .270 is a Browning BBR. My only problem with it? It’s not a Model 70!

I like it! Passing on the gospel of the M70 270...

And I don't sweat it too much, my kids all get my rifles anyhow, so between the 2 year old and 25 year old, I feel okay buying a rifle for a kid, even if Dad gets to shoot it a bit first whistle

This was laying on a table next to some other really nice rifles, but it was screaming at me. I picked it up and was told it was a 22 Hornet. After careful examination I could see it was a pre-64 model 70 22 Hornet action that had been skillfully cut down to a 22 Hornet length cartridge.

I bought it and showed it to Monte Mandarino and Dennis Olson, both very accomplished Gun makers to see if they could recognize the work. They both had some ideas, but nothing for certain.

When Steven Dodd Hughes (SDH here on the Campfire) looked at it, he was also impressed with the workmanship and wanted to look at it closer.

I left it with him and he called me later and told me he had gotten it out of the stock. He also told me I had hit a grand slam with this rifle, as it was made by Stephen Heilman, an exceptional custom gun maker.

The attention to detail can’t be shown in photographs, but this is an unbelievably well built custom rifle. I am always thankful for the guys that don’t go to gun shows because they can’t find anything worth buying any more…

Hopefully you are GETTING Pre64's and getting RID of black guns. If it is the other way around, please go sit in the corner with your nose against the wall. smile

I purchased a Daniel DefenseV v.1 308 Win Hunter for 1250.00 about three years ago. A Pre64 Winchester Model 70 Alaskan showed up and the LGS went for it. Probably because I buy a lot of guns from them.
