That’s a much better question for your wife’s doc than a bunch of us idiots on the fire. I pray she beats it tho. Cancer took my 1st wife at 43 - leukemia.

God Bless we will be praying for her. If you want to look up a Doctor Stanislaw Burzynski. He has a clinic outside houston. I hate as that he has had success curing different cancers.

Maybe my wife's wasn't as advanced, but after her emergency complete hysterectomy she has been cancer free for years.

There's hope, & hope for the best.

I’d say that YES! Your wife has an excellent prognosis and I pray that you both live a long happy life together, this is merely a speed bump on the road of life and eventually it’ll be nothing more than a distant memory. If the doctors believe that they “got it all” and they’re satisfied with the surgery then I’d feel damn good about it if I were you guys. Radiation and/or chemotherapy will be the final nail in the coffin of her cancer and you’ll be stuck with one another for the rest of your time on earth. 😉

There’s most definitely power in positive thinking but nothing like the real power of PRAYER….which, coincidentally you have from here!

The surgical staging of excised malignant masses and the five year survival rates are based on a one to four scale, one being the best, four the worst. Late stage two usual indicates some but minimal local spread but without metastatic spread to other organs, usually requiring some chemo and or radiation. There are the newer immunotherapies, too. Survival rates for Stage one are 90+%, Stage two usually 80-90%. It gets worse very quickly with Stages 3&4. Has she had a PET scan? Results? What exact cancer is stated on the pathology report?

River,
Please know that you have a whole bunch of very good people on this board praying for your wife and you, including my wife and me. Faith in the Lord is your strongest weapon against cancer.

My wife was recently diagnosed with Merkel Cell Carcinoma. It is the deadliest form of skin cancer. It killed the singer, Jimmy Buffet. In the last five years the knowledge base on this rare cancer has increased dramatically. The early treatments of Buffet were likely a major reason for his death. I’m saying this because it is vital that you get as educated as possible about the latest and best treatment options for your wife’s condition.

Best wishes and keep us posted!

I would start doing some research and many late night reading hours devoted to white papers, studies, analysis.

That’s what I do

It’s incumbent upon you being the care giver or the patient to be long educated on science, terminology, treatments, pharma, breakthroughs, test cases and more.

Doctors (specialists) only devote a good 3-10 mins with a patient. I have caught them half assing treatment plans, recommended extended treatment options and surveillance. Even caught a near miss on them dosing me with iv contrast. The radiology tech was going to argue with me and I straightened her right the fouck out with a quickness. Ain’t trying to sound mean but people are going to have to turn off the John Wayne and Breitbart and get a hold of the reins.

Sorry to hear this and the best of luck to you and yours. If you haven't already I'd suggest reading up on using Ivermectin for cancer treatment.

her recovery is in my prayers... hope everything heals quickly and cancer is gone from her body.

and peace be with you during this trying time... I think the uncertainty can be harder on the family than the patient.

Well…. the 5-year survival rates are exactly, and only, that. It’s not a reoccurrence-rate statistic. It comes back much more often than your quoted numbers would suggest. Ovarian is some “spready” stuff…. A person can be on their deathbed at 5 years + one day, from cancer that spread, yet still fit under that cheery 5-year statistic.

Slummy's right - you and your wife are the senior partners in her treatment, ask a lot of questions and demand truthful answers.
You and she are, and NEED to be, the best patient advocates in the course of treatment. Don't be afraid of asking for a second opinion.
We've been down that road twice with "The Warden" (different cancers).
Once in 2010, and once in 2017. We've kept up with the check-ups, and so far - so good.
Her doctors have actually appreciated our intense involvement in her course of treatment.

Prayers sent for the both of you.
