Hey fellas. Thought I’d post up a really nice skinning knife I had made up by Clint Chisan, a Canadian maker. His knives have really nice grinds and craftsmanship. This is his skinner model, 3.5” cutting edge. I had him make it from .094” Magnacut @ 64 rc, and with a full flat grind. I really liked Hank Hammond’s Canadian Skinner, as well as Charlie May’s Buk 95, so when I saw this design of Clint’s it was a pretty easy decision. The blade profile is super duper close to both of them, and exactly what I was wanting. I could not be happier. Commissioned him to make me a second knife right away.

I like that!

Thin and sharp.

Been reading that with the Magnacut , 63-64 is the sweet spot for hardness.

3.75” blade length overall, but 3.5” cutting edge.

Is that a standard pattern for him or your specs?

Thanks.

Hi Frank. No, that is a standard pattern of his. He calls it his Skinner. He also has a 3.5” Semi Skinner, and a 4” Drop Hunter. It really is a lovely knife, but so are the other two models I reference. You can see em all on his instagram account. He is just a short drive north of Montana. The exchange rate on our dollar is sooooo bad against yours that it makes it punitive to buy on you fine folks’ side of the border, so I thought I’d give him a try as I know many guys who loves his knives. Happy like hell I did.

Grats dude that looks really nice. Look forward to hearing about you getting it bloody.

Also did you reorder the same knife or did you change a variable?

Thanks. I really like that knife. I’ve seen him mentioned on other forums and will contact him. Enjoy your new knife, it’s a beauty.

That is a nice pattern. I have not tried Magnacut as of yet, but would like to, but I'm not a steel snob.

Definitely bears resemblance to a Dozier K-2 which I agree, is a good thing.

BladeForums can be pretty brutal (cutting :-) but I searched and all I could find was good things!

I see that he is Canada, so with the way the Canuck buck is weak against the US dollar, some canny folk could get a lot of knife for their money!

I was also going to say great looking knife, very nice workmanship, also mindful of a Dozier to me. I've read a lot about Magnacut, seems like the cat's meow.

Actually, closer to my favorite Dozier (of 27ish?) and again, that's a really good thing!!! I want one. Does Clint have a phone or email?

PM if you would...

I like everything about that knife, maybe a 3 inch blade over 3.5, but the Dozier/Marbles Woodcraft look is right in my wheelhouse.

Thanks for posting and Im sure costing me some money....

Contacted Clint via the above email last night. Guy was very quick to respond. Claimed to be 3 months out on new orders. Going to call him today to firm up my order.

My skinner and a buddy’s 6” boning knife in Magnacut by Clint Chisan. Very functional knife that does it’s job well. Glad to have ordered it, and looking forward to seeing my next one and Woodson’s order soon.

I have my order in to duplicate your skinner but with WM crosscut canvas micarta, jigged, thin red liner and a leather sheath. Also shortening the blade 1/8”. $30 shipping to get my scales to AB?!

Hard pressed to not order this next.

Great looking knife. Oddly enough some of our most very favorite knives are from Canadian knife maker George Tichbourne of Mississauga, Ontario. He was a master and sadly missed since passing 12 or so years back... Canada has a rich tradition of knifemakers.... I can name 10 or 12 off the top of my head that people would recognize, but have no idea they are/were Canadian.

How did the edge on your skinner hold up? Any other steels that you’d compare it to?

Thanks.

Frank, to be honest, it was just a whitetail my buddy brought over so we could say we bloodied those two knives. Each knife skinned half a doe. LOL.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'm guessing that 1/2 of a whitetail wasn't much of a test. I got on Clint's list for one.

Happy Holidays.
