Interesting article. It’s good to see salmon thriving somewhere. Here in the PNW, they are struggling. Between commercial fishing, tribes, and sea lions, there just aren’t many fish left.

I never knew salmon spawned naturally in any of the Great Lakes.

Congrats, Dan!

Mike, I haven't fished the Salmon (well, in ID, not NY), but I have fished the Genesee and also the Muskegon in MI. Think they're spawning in both?

I do think it’s funny that pacific salmon species are thriving in the great lakes, with average sizes exceeding what we see here…while walleye thrive here in the PNW and are exceeding sizes you find throughout the midwest. Unfortunately, the walleye aren’t being embraced here besides a few folks here and there.

Good on you! It's a great fishery.

Caught my first salmon in Lake Ontario off the Scarborough Bluffs on the Canadian side of the lake.

Great thrill!!

Great job. Those salmon are a blast to catch. Gotta love the fight they put up.

The only natural spawn would be an Atlantic salmon which are native. But they are all pretty much stocked. Very small percentage actually become wild fish.

For those that don’t really know is the trout and salmon are stocked as fingerlings in the tributaries they swim out to the lakes and in so many years they will return to that same creek they are stocked in. Some may get confused and go up other creeks following the school. Which is still called the spawning. As I can go on but will keep it short.

Yes there is natural reproduction happening in a few tributaries on the US side and many on the Canadian side of the lake

That's pretty cool DVD. My cousin and a buddy come up there and fish for salmon. He's been on me to go up with him. I'll have to get up there sometime.
