Winchester M/63 is the finest autoloading. 22 RF ever made, I've owned several including the rare Deluxe Carbine model. The Model 61 is the best slide action ever made, owned a couple of them including a .22 Magnum.

I enjoy mine, also have some of the 1903 that shoot special run ammo and it and my 63 are favourites of mine, lot cheaper shooting the 63, also like mi 61 and 1890 22 rifles, but up here I paid around a 1000.00 CDN for my 63.

My Dad's 63 was worn enough, if you turned it upside down, it would go full auto until it jammed or was empty...huge fun....until I was caught.

Hey, a nice second option is the little Browning 22 Auto, or Automatic Take down, ATD. Those BA22's might be a fine rifle, but, what they are NOT good for is summertime driving around shooting gophers out the window while wearing shorts. They shoot scalding-hot empties down into the open bottom of your short's leg and if you move wrong the mini branding iron quickly and alarmingly makes its way towards your nads right quick. It's an alarming enough situation that a kid just MIGHT get away with his/her 1st cuss-word in front of dad sans any punishment save for the embarrassment of the super-X brand on your inner thigh......

What about a Taurus 63 (Winchester clone). https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1016317000IDK if it’s worth the price of admission, someone here might. If the Taurus 63 is a decent rifle, the price point might make your budgetary requirements. 🦫 I've always wondered about those too.

It's for a couple young boys. Neat guns. No, sorry. I had one long ago. Those will be some lucky boys. You might also look for a Win 74 if you're after vintage semi-autos. Watch out for the '03. Looks like the 63 but shoots a slightly different .22 round which is very hard to find.
Anyone who thinks there's two sides to everything hasn't met a M�bius strip.
