Well sorry for the late reply and no photo. I’ve been trying to get a photo to upload since yesterday evening I managed to get lucky and seal the deal with a buck we’ve been after for 3 years. Between 3 of us we’ve laid eyes on him 5 times And this time was the one.. to say I am elated is an understatement.
I had my paps 243 in my hands, I’ve killed a few does and way back in the day a spike with it. I had carried this rifle with rhe intention of taking a good buck with it and finally came though. I could feel my grandpap sitting with me today. There just aren’t words to describe how special this deer and this hunt was.
we have his sheds from 2021,
About 8:15 I heard some leaves crunching. Eyes scanning hard I realized the deer was coming from behind me over my left shoulder and closing. I turned a little to look and he stopped. Then a short snort and he took off. I caught a flash of big antler and the gun was up and safety off. I managed to get the cross hairs on him and shot, racked another round and managed a follow up shot. He crossed a ditch and slowed down and I lost sight of him. I thought the first shot was a hit and the 2nd was a miss but just wasn’t sure.
I climbed down off the rock I was on and walked to where I saw him last no blood. I walked towards the ditch and see a big scuff mark in the leaves. I begin glassing to see what was past the scuff mark. lower my bino and look down and he’s laying in the ditch in front of me!!!
my biggest PA buck to date, main frame 10. 134lbs hanging weight, rough scores at 148.
my boy helped me drag him out. 1.5 miles pretty much uphill the whole way. Took just at 3 hours
Guess I will have to add the pic later…. When I get better service.
congrats to everyone and good luck to those still after it. I’m taking today off and will fill some doe tags later this week.

I managed this one at 830 on opening day. My nephew shot a dandy at noon yesterday. My 82 YO dad shot a nice buck the first afternoon. I was sitting with him. Not sure how many more times we get to do that but this time was special.

I had my 8 year old with me opening day Had 2 doe walk right up the logging road in front of me and stopped and stared at me. 8 year old started shaking when she saw her I had no intentions of shootinga deer at 7 am on opening day especially in those woods. but she was almost pleading saying daddy please shoot a deer. so a single 140 gr Partiton from my 280 sealed the deal
