Battue,
Good for you and your neighbors.
Until Gary Ault, I could go almost everywhere around here. It was only “Imports” who posted or denied hunting. Now everyone posts, and we have tooooooooo
much land being bought by imports. Basically all the bigger parcels, locals can’t afford it.

Skank,
Now I remember the conversation, not certain the location. It was up Carrolltown way?

Armstrong…. Little town of maybe 40 homes. Which is were I’m originally from and all relations on my Mothers side still live. The entire county and the surrounding ones are mostly posted up.

It is what is left of my Grandparents old ground. I was fortunate that I got it back in 1970. I guess I can be looked at as an import😁, but I’m related to more than a few. Big thing is I make an effort to get along. None of that timbering ruined any of their home backyard views..

Damn Pittsburgher!
😉😉😉😉😉😉

Most of my gripes are with Baltimore so.

There is an old summer resort in the cove my maternal roots are, it was bought by
Officers Christian Fellowship. A Christian military officer group. They come there to recreate, the buy up all the land in the area to retire to.

I hate them with a purple passion!

As a group, in theory.

However, most of them are great people once you get to know them.
(In a whisper) some are even friends.

It's a heck of a thing trying to dispise folks you like, who are only doing to me what
i'd do to others if i could afford to buy up land in a few other states!

Our farms are enrolled in a PGC access program, have been for years. Most of the neighbors were too. Not so much anymore. Plus lots of new houses in places I used to hunt.

I do that to a smaller scale. I selective cut some trees every year to release the good trees, mostly oaks and black cherry.
If it's a good tree to burn, I'll drop it. If not, then I'll girdle and leave it in place. Some stuff gets hinged. Then as new stuff gets established from the increased sunlight, I'll protect the desirable trees with tree tubes.

Got a fine 9 pointer, a few busted points, but he's solid, at 7 FEET with " Boop". She's my May of '79 production Remington 760 .35 Remington. The load was a 200 round nose Core Lokt over 45gr of Hodgdon LVR. Chrono'd velocity is 2280 fps and he took ALL of it. Even recovered the bullet!
.670 diameter and 150.4 grains. It got a rib going in, the front of the right lung, the left lung practically ran through my fingers when I removed it, 3 ribs on the left and was under the hide.
He came through the corn like a tank! Almost ran me over!
He's panting, I'm slack jawed. Don't know who was more surprised! I eye locked him and SLOWLY raised the rifle. Caught the scope in my peripheral vision and saw white... brown... BOOMFLOP!
Got a little on me...
My first buck in 8 years.
Thank You LORD!!!!

Holy crap! That is about my ideal rack wide, heavy, a bit of character. And a pa deer to boot.

Yep Karl, I'm real close to Carrolltown (closer to Patton). My boy works at K-metal.

That is so sad what has happened to hunting in Pa. It used to be fun. Now, sad. Last time I hunted there was about 2015. Deer were nice, but the good times were over. I never hunted near Patton, but used to hunt near La Jose quite often. Enjoy what you can.

i used to hunt north of Patton, St Lawrence specifically. i'd seen a lot of bucks on my cameras. unfortunately, it was always at night. i had seen a big black bear too.

Russian Admiral said, after the Moskva sank, "we have the world's worst navy but we aren't as bad as our army".
