I hadn't watched the local news yesterday, and just heard this morning that there was a massive fire underneath the 10 Freeway going into Los Angeles at Alameda Ave., that has damaged the freeway so bad that it has shut down the 10 Freeway in both directions indefinitely. Virtually cutting off entry into Los Angeles from the Southland without going completely around and coming in from the North... Construction crews are this morning building false works underneath the freeway bridge to hold it up, so that inspectors can come in to see how badly damaged it is. No idea as of yet how long all this will take or whether the massive interchange will have to be torn down and rebuilt.

That's two massive fires within a week with the Tustin Hanger fire.

I have said since 9-11... that if a terrorist dropped the Route 1 bridge on I-95 at exit 126 (Fredericksburg) it would shut down the East coast.

To a lesser degree I-70 and I-75 north of Dayton, Ohio.

Most people are oblivious to these threats... including .GOV "Professionals".

Apparently, it was a wood pallet company and vehicle parking lots that burned. Looks like it destroyed about 400 feet of overhead freeway interchange and hundreds of cars...

Didn't the west have something like 400 wildfires going at one time a couple months ago.

Their anarchy will really get things heated up next summer.

If I'm not mistaken that is also where a lot of the rail traffic out of Long Beach ports runs under headed North...

I saw that on the news last night. There were hundreds of wooden pallets stored under that I 10 bridge. I bet they got lit on fire by some homeless persons.
We had the same thing happen in Atlanta 2 years ago, the bridge of I 85 downtown was ruined, fire lit by homeless guys.

Whether the blaze was the outcome of stupidity in storing a huge amount of flammables beneath such a key interchange or a purposeful act of sabotage by some insidious warrior for evil, the opportunity was formed due to lack of diligence. Who is responsible for such a lack?

This. We had an an overpass structure ( US 290/ Lp 111) in that beautiful socialist utopia of Austin burn by a homeless dude who had a big wooden structure up on top of the rip rap under the structure. Just ahead of the expansion joints. Totally destroyed the integrity of both lanes.

Within walking distance of where I sit, the PA Turnpike, I-70/76, crosses US 30 at a choke point with no easy detour for either.

Near my birth home, the main RR line from Baltimore to Pittsburgh goes through
a couple remote tunnels.

Those tunnels were guarded during WWII.
The highway crossing was considered a target during the cold War.

Horseshoe Curve (look it up) and the Altoona rail yards were a target
of the German Spies in Operation Pastorius.
