I just returned from Chiredzi, Zimbabwe. I shot a cape buffalo the last day I was there. Hunting was tough - it was over 100 degrees every day and the wind was swirling constantly. We got busted a lot by the wind. Not too many dugga boys, bulls were constantly joining herds, because the ladies were receptive. Saw some big herds 150+, and it was hard to stalk because you had 300 eyes looking at you. It rained constantly the last couple days, so I'm going to have to get my rifle reblued. All in All - great fun.

416 Remington - 325G Hammer Shock Hammer - Rem Brass, Federal Match Primer, 73G Varget 2785fps. The bullet performed perfectly, the 4 front petals broke off, and it penetrated the chest, heart, lungs, stomach, and ended up in the rear hip. Well done!

It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

Congrats, you just lived my dream. I am curious about that bullet design. Did the petals penetrate the vitals?

Well done and a great old buff. It does get toasty this time of year in Zim. Did several late season hunts in the Omay in October. Don't miss the 120 degree days much.

Very nice buffalo! Late season can get really hot but it sounds like you dealt with it well. Congratulations!

I don’t know about the petals. I shot this buff ½ hour before dark in the sprinkling rain on my last day hunting .The PH asked the skinner to try to recover the bullet, and this is what he got. He was surprised it penetrated so deeply. Rob, the PH is going to bring the recovered bullet to me at SCI in Nashville and then I will weigh it and see how much weight it retained. I’m pretty impressed with it. On previous buffs I have always used Barnes TSX bullets with outstanding results as well.

Outstanding bull and bullet performance. Thank you for the posting the pictures and report. The 325 grain Shock Hammer was impressive.

It was a cancellation hunt. I’ve hunted buff with this PH (Buffalo Range) twice before. The German client that was scheduled for August had to cancel at the last minute- so the PH called me and offered me the hunt at the end of the season since he would have the extra buffalo on quota. So it was a last minute hunt- that’s why it was so late in the season- his last hunt of the year.

Didn't see any snakes at all this time. The last time I was in this concession almost stepped on a puff adder.[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Good bud, one shot in Zim, .416 Rigby, Ruger Safari Magnum.

400 TSX did the trick.

But I like your bullet choice better.
