Kinda new to lever actions. I was hoping that someone here might lead me to a source(s) where a Model 1886 lever action of decent vintage could be purchased? Any info would be appreciated.

Are you wanting a reproduction or an original? The originals can set you back a few thousand dollars, depending on the condition you want. Cabela's has a number of originals and some reproductions on their website; click on "gun library" when you get there, then go to Winchester rifles and you'll see what I mean..

I bought a Browning Repro Model 1886 High grade which is still new in the box; they made them in the late 1980's. It is a very nice looking rifle, 22" barrel with gold inlaid deer and bear on a silver receiver---a strikingly attractive rifle. The 1886 action is the one that the very fine Winchester Model 71, in .348 Winchester, is based on. I have a Deluxe Model 71, made in 1956 which is all original and in probably 95% condition and I feel it is the Cadillac of heavy lever guns...

keep an eye out at your favorite magazine rack, they call the old Gun List paper, Gun digest or some such thing now. A neighbor give me a copy that's a month or so old now,but there were plenty of the 86's in there, and a few of the 71's.

If it's not too late, I have two safe queens....
One is a new in box Browning 1886 with the long octagonal barrel.
The other is a new (missing box) Browning 1886 Saddle ring carbine.

Do any of you guys have recent experience with how the 1886 Repro shoots? I haven't fired mine yet....What loads do you use, at what range, and how are the groups?
