I've been playing the pass up game trying to come up with one of the true studs I'd been seeing in July and August. All I seemed able to turn up were three pointers. I did - and probably shouldn't have - pass on a pretty decent 3x4 with great eye guards... thought I'd find that next age class step up.... nope.

Today I spotted two does feeding near the edge of a brushy drop off. I was on the quad on a primitive two track and stopped to glass them, thinking a buck might be close by. Yep! He was bedded in the tangle of a fallen oak tree - looking right at me.

When I decided to shoot him, I used the quad as a rest. He stood and started to walk off into the brush, came full broadside and dropped right there at the shot. 6.5CM 140gr Sierra spbt.

You sure worked hard at it all summer scouting, I'm really glad to see you scored and a really pretty buck to boot. Well done.

Congrats! That looks like a big one. Did you weigh him?

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

Because I hunt solo almost all of the time, I needed a way to take reasonable photos with my cell phone.

I bought a gizmo that attaches my iPhone to a tripod and has a small hand held blue toothed shutter activator.... or whatever its called....

I like to take a bunch of pics and then sort thru and delete the junk.
Once in a while I get a pic or two that are worth while.
