Not sure if there are any collectors but we have a few clippers.
That looks like a Morgan Dollar to me.

When I was a paperboy, my dad would take my Morgan's but gave me 1.25 for them, I was a kid and thought that was great. Had that route for 5yr. Fast forward 50yr I still have 5 coffee cans full. Dad had them in garage with my name on them.

Thanks guys My dad had some coins out today. He's got 3 of these Morgan's. Other 2 are in plastic cases. Bunch of silver dollars from the early 70's , silver pennies, 1/2 dollars, and some proof quarters in plastic. All I'm sure are more emotional but never seen the one above.

Morgan silver dollar. And 1921 was the last year for them. Has about .785 ounces or so of silver in it. I bought over 400 of them a few years back from a guy from Montana. Some of the ones from the 1800's with the CC mint mark can be worth thousands but common ones in rough shape can be worth about $25.

My dad was big into coin collecting when he was a kid. I think a lot of those guys did that back then. He went to work at the local drive-in theater when he was 12. This was 1958. It was just down the road from his house. The owner would let him go through the change at concessions. In high school, he started working in the local theaters and he would do the same thing there. This was in an era when a lot of old coins were floating around.(Late 18th and early 20th century. He continued collecting on into adulthood. We got them all out one time before he passed away. It was pretty impressive. I have a few coins but never got into collecting them. I don’t need to collect anything else, lol.

Bb You are partially correct, they were made from 1878 to 1921, but the United States Mint started making them again in 2021 for the 100 year anniversary. The USMint made them in three different varieties this year uncirculated, proof and reverse proof. from 1878 to 1921 they were made from 90% silver, the 2021 up is 99.9% silver. Also the OP's coin has no mint mark meaning it was made at the Philadelphia Mint

@OP, Cool coin. Enjoy your time with your dad.
My dad had a small metal tray (8"x10" +/-) with compartments that he used to collect coins. Had subway tokens, coins from Philippines and Japan from his time in the Navy during WWII. Also, all sorts of old silver U.S. coins, including at least one three cent piece. Nowhere to be found when he passed. Assuming one of the relatives made off with it while I was living in PA. As above, purely emotional attachment for me. But expect whoever made off with it cashed it out. I hate thieves.

A junk silver dollar will fetch $25-30 on eBay, or $75 at a local estate auction. People around here are strange.
Last auction I went to, I bought a bag of silver half dollars for $7 each. All the silver dollars went for $75 each.

I've been saving Silver Dollars for about 70 years, had over 100, but have started to gift them to my kids and grandkids. Pictured is what I have left. This year for their Stocking Stuffer I'm giving my three son's what's shown in the middle of the picture. New Silver Proof Morgan from the mint plus two old Morgans, 1878 & 1921. (First year and last year they were made) I already gave them the Silver Proof of the Peace Dollar (2023 along with an original 1923.

My local pawn shop occasionally gets someone in selling him their silver dollars, Peace and Morgans. He must get them for a song, because he then puts them in the glass case for $20.00 apiece. That's what I paid for those pictured above, and for these below.

I love silver coins. I need to find a silver Ike that someone has opened from the wrapper, I have several but no way I’m opening them.

Back in the early 60's when they started making the "wafer" quarters, you could still get Franklin halves, silver quarters, Mercury dimes and Buffalo nickels. Curious, I began to hang onto some of them. I'm not a "numismatist" by any means, but I was able to hang onto about $15 (face value) in silver coins. Working a construction job back in the 70's. A general foreman was watching our crew set a big pump motor. During a pause, i noticed him clinking some coins in his hand. He had five Franklin halves. The rest of the crew laughed at me because i paid him $5 for the five of them! I still have all five! They're worth about $15/ea! Found a trophy somebody threw in tgevtrash. It was an acrylic block with a silver dollar embedded in the back. Hit it one time with a hammer and the 1923 silver dollar popped out on my hand!
Forget which years, but two or three years of nickels contain silver.

Silver Eagles with the correct year are my gift of choice for graduation gifts. Cool choice. Premiums on them are way down from their high last year. For a while, they were going for twice spot. Now they're just a few dollars above spot.

The silver dollar pictured in post one is likely valued at about $30 to 35 dollars. Couple other facts about coins, most silver coins ( pre 1964 ) are usually worth more for the silver content then the coins collector value. Another common myth about the 1943 wartime steel pennies, people think they are valuable, most are valued at under a dollar. Another myth is that all old coins are worth big bucks. Really age has little to do with value. Number one reason for high value is the rarity. Number two, is the condition of the coin. Some people may have a fairly high value coin that may be discolored, and they attempt to clean it. They now have destroyed most of the value. Serious coin collectors want coins in their original unaltered condition.

Serious coin collectors want coins in their original unaltered condition. You can tell a cleaned coin (that otherwise looks uncirculated) by the loss of the frosty luster on the background from when it was first minted. You should be able to turn the coin in your fingers in such a way as to see the light from the room swirling around on it. That is usually missing from cleaned, otherwise uncirculated-looking, coins.

Yes, I even bought a few thousand from fire members. Every once in a while I find a decent deal but most places want a premium for Mercury's. There's some decent deals on silver this weekend premium wise but spot is up. Bb

My sister has an early Morgan (1860 something?). Called and asked me what to use to clean it!!! 🤯 "DO NOT clean that coin!" Fortunately, I stopped her before she cleaned it. Whew! It's safely stored in my gun safe now.

There's some decent deals on silver this weekend premium wise but spot is up.
Bb Silver spot is about $24.50, about a buck up but really has not changed much in a few years.....but yes premiums were nuts

First Morgan was minted in 1878, last in 1921 They ended their minting in 1904. They then did a special run of them in 1921 before switching the next year to the Peace Dollar design. A 22 year gap in Morgan minting. Then they stopped minting the Peace Dollar in 1928, and started again in 1934. They permanently stopped minting the Peace Dollar in 1935. That was the last silver dollar run. Reason being, folks just horded them in 1934 and 1935, rather than spend them into circulation. They were likely afraid they'd stop minting them again. Well, actually, hundreds of thousands of Peace Dollars were minted in 1965, but someone changed their mind and they were all melted down before leaving the Denver Mint. That was the year, in fact, they stopped minting any 90% silver coins. All US 90% silver coins with a 1965 date on them (dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars) were melted back down in 1965 before ever leaving their mints.
