I have to laugh every time that I hear someone say that their 24" or 26" barrel is too long, then I see all of these hunting shows where the hunter has a 6" or 8" can on the end of their barrel making it 30" or more long.

I would NOT cut a 26" barrel down to 24" or shorter.

I don’t laugh at the ridiculous length of these “canned” rifles…..I delete the show!

I’m not opposed to a can, except for the government’s BS, but I’m not gonna chop 6 - 8 or more inches off of my rifle for that!

Amen..LOL I will never use a can..

Yes! You got that right fellas! No ugly things on rifles. Maybe the new fad will slow down.

And hopefully the wait time will be shorter….grin.

The older I get the less I like toting around goofy long ass barreled rifles. There just isn't a reason on a hunting rifle.

I say chop 'em, they're your rifles and make them like you want them. 24" is plenty for either of those rounds.

Have the vanguard in 300 Bee with a 24 inch barrel. It excels with R17 and 180's. 180s' at 3150 might not be the point of having a 300 Bee but I like a gun that can be carried without a dolly, does not need an ear busting brake nor kick the crap out me.

Amen Brother……24” is plenty long. In your neck of the woods…..18” to 22” usually work pretty well! memtb

I’m using a 24” barrel on my 300 Weatherby Vanguard. In my experience 24 is fine to get good performance out of that caliber, mine is not braked but several in our group are - it makes a difference in target shooting accuracy without question. If you reload you already know it easily outperforms 300 Win Mags at all practical hunting yardages say under 800.

Don’t care what the idiots think about yor caliber choices but based on several elk shot with the 300 Bee the 340 seems like an “extra” gun to me. Not a bad thing at all but I’d go larger to get a different performance vs the very similar 300.

Nothing wrong with your choices except that they are not what some of the other “gentlemen” on this site would buy.

On the matter of balance I notice the difference between 24 and 26 inch length barrels. I would cut the 300 to 24” and the 340 to 23” AND I would leave the brakes off both.

Ha, I'm with you Mem! I grew up running deer with hounds in the Big Thicket South and shotguns of 30-32", 28" was a "short barrel". I like long rifle barrels, 24 is just right though. I want ALL a cartridge can give me, the limits of its design. But, thats me, only carbines I love are leverguns and M4s

Pard OP, go and have a ball! Two great calibers! One note. The Collet Accuracy Innovations die squeezes that bulge out near the belt. Weatherby factory loads typically run over 70K, but they want you to use once and throw away, ha. Hope you pile up ol Slewfoot.
