Dis one was fugly enough ,but felt compelled to bounce around after the first shot...prompting more ordnance to be sent downrange from the mighty .17 Rem!

You can’t kill hogs with those little rifles! The shield! What about the shield!!!

From the USDA Extension service:

They don't have a shield over their little brains, and even if they did, my .17 Death Ray would penetrate it!

At one point I was called a "stunt shooter" for using a .243 with the speer 90 spitzer on hogs. And none of them were particularly large hogs.

Ingwe, I wish you would stop showing that .222. I have a set of dies and you are flinging a craving on me to get a rifle so I can put them to use!

The .243 is my "Big" gun, and with 75 Vmax it really bowls them over!

Sorry . You better gets used to it...it has become my favorite rifle.

Bought it as an ADL from a guy here on the 'fire....converted it to BDL and commenced to filling an ark.

This guy was our fugliest and also the meanest. He was rather oddly built and you could smell him from 10 yards away. Looked like some failed science experiment.



For the record, I prefer Mrs. Fuglys, as they generally eat better.

Picked up a Varmint Special a few months back. Lucked into through a local online auction. Its in very lightly used condition. Under $500 after tax and fees. I could not tell if it was a heavy barrel or standard from the bad pictures and angles. Was hoping for a standard barrel contour but for the price Im happy as can be. Only shot once so far and its very promising as a accuracy goes. Its my third 222 and the only one I have at the moment. Sold a very accurate 722 a couple years back to a buddy who kept crying for me to sell it to him.
Hopefully I will find a good deal on a walking around one.
May build one on a Ruger no 1 that doesn’t get much use. Just picked up a extractor just in case

...But lets talk about the hog for a minute.

A guy killed a boar up at the lease a few weeks back and cut out the hams and shoulders for sausage.

I hung around and watched the proceedings as all I had ever done was cut the back strap out of one little sow. The few other pigs I’ve killed were coyote food.

The “shield”, for those on here who’ve never seen it, was comprised of thick hair, thick hide and about 3/4”-1” of hard, dense, fat that went from the shoulder all the way back to the flank.
I could see where that, along with shoulder bones and muscle, could give a lightly constructed bulllet pause.

Head shots negate this, if only obviously.

I shot a big boar hog point blank with 7 1/2 high brass express in the shield, the shot and wad was stuck in the shield as one.
