They had a good run.

It was just a matter of time before the plant closed. I really think it was intentional on the part of some leftist democRATs in the New York legislature. They wanted it gone and that day has arrived.

Surprised they would close. The usual thing the NY factories would do is stay open with a few security guards stationed there to keep the DEC from suing them for cleanup, all those years of cutting oil could make NY some money.

I'm 85, am not any sort of regular at gun shows, and apparently have not yet reached "coothood". What price would the likes of you have me place on an excellent 700 made at Ilion?

They were sub-$500 less than 5 years ago. Obviously, everything has gone up, but when I see guys trying to get much more than $850 (definitely if over $1000), for a “garden variety” (not a Classic series, Ti, custom shop, etc) 700 BDL or ADL, I just have to roll my eyes.

I paid over $300 ($700) for a rifle - once! - just a few years ago. M70 was barely used - maybe 50 rounds thru it (about 100 now).

Still trying to make the mo-fo shoot as well as an $85 beat-to-hell Ruger with a (now chopped off) muzzle bulge, or the free- even worse shape - 725SA that I hung a $100 700TI take-off on. .1.25 MOA, and MOA respectively, factory ammo. Good enough to kill s**t with. And I have, lots.

To me, the value of a gun is not what it looks like, or how much it costs (well, yes- the cheaper the better!), or how proud of it someone is.

Does the bugger shoot? Bottom line.

But that's just me. You boys have at it. smile

In a statement on the closure, Representative Elise Stefanik (NY-24), said in part:

I have spoken with local officials and Remington Arms union members in United Mine Workers of America, Local 717 about how we must stand up to New York’s failed unconstitutional gun bans.

LoL. Little late for that now.

That’s simply “getting ahead of it” for the next election cycle.

Exactly, what’s the attraction to stay in NY, the terrible taxes, the anti business politicians, the anti gun attitude, etc.
And other states would likely have paid significant financial incentives to land another business.
Piss poor management is the issue.

Unions and their brain dead members have a tendency to cut their own throats.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.

They should never have settled the Sandy Hook case. The idea is preposterous that a manufacturer can be held liable for the intentional misuse of its products.

Wonder if they shake off the union with this, if they can, or will even try?
