So I have a Sako A7S that is an absolute tack driver. The only problem is it has the crappy Sako soft touch stock and yep its sticky! I have saw on a few forums where people have reached out to Sako and their solution is for you to buy a new stock from them for $6-700. I'm obviously not doing that however I came across Midwest Gunworks' website when I googles Sako A7 stocks and it appears I can buy a replacement non-soft touch stock (appears to be identical to the stock that came on my rifle without the soft touch coating) for $199. The only other option I have found is a Bell & Carlson which run about $350. I am leaning towards the Sako replacement from Midwest Gunworks just because I am assuming it will be a direct drop in stock with no issues or additional work needed and the B&C's I have had in the past seem a little bulkier and heavier than most factory synthetic stocks. Anyone replace their soft touch stocks? Opinions and/or first hand experience appreciated.

B&C has the integral block instead of removable lug so it will involve bedding of some sort , some people get it right and most get it wrong. I would just buy a sako oem stock and roll with that.

I have three A7's.It took me awhile to figure them out to get them to shoot. The problem I had with them was the stocks were flexing behind the recoil lug where it was inletted out for the magazine latch. The two A7 Range stocks I ended up full length bedding the stock under the barrel,The Big Game stock I was able to JB Weld a couple of pieces of hacksaw blades on each side of the latch inlet and that stiffen the stock and shot great afterwards.Warranty sent me a replacement stock with an aluminum bedding block for the Big Game. That is the way to go.The one I fixed shoots the same as the one with the bedding block.Warranty didn't have a replacement stock for the A7 Range stock.Boyd's has some stocks for A7's too. They don't have bedding blocks in them and the ones I have require a little simple bedding, but they are stiff stocks.I still would choose a stock with the aluminum bedding block if you can find one

McMillian Hunters Edge Sako Classic on one of them tackdrivers. Grip nearly worn off the soft touch on the other tack driver..

Paladin, a division of Hill Country Rifles in Texas, will strip and re-coat, hard coat, the Sako stock in black for $148 which includes return shipping, they will do a cammo web pattern for $178. They are on the web with alternate colors and patterns. When folks ask me about a Sako stock coating coming off or melting, I just refer them to Paladin. They reportedly do 5-10 stocks per week. Apparently they have the strip and re-coat process pretty much down pat. Said they apply a Cerakote finish.

One of the reasons I prefer wood, but not at the Sako wood stock prices.

Boyd's looks like it makes the At-One for the A7-m Long-Action w/Detachable Mag. It has adjustable comb and LOP.

Every time I see this thread I think one of you guys could possibly use a CDI precision gunworks DBM bottom metal for your short action A7. This one takes AICS mags, and was intended to go on a 6.5 creedmoor Roughtech Range. However, I ended up selling the rifle before I got a chance to fit this bottom metal to it. It is still new in the box, never used. If you are changing stocks and stuff, you might as well run a nice bottom metal with it. If interested, send me a PM. Cost would be $200.00 shipped.
