This is a project which is coming toward the top of my to do list.
It is a #1B SS pepper laminate in 7MM STW. I have put at least a couple thousand rounds through it, and the throat looks like my gravel driveway. Accuracy has faded.
Most of the typical rebarrel places, PaacNor, Douglas, etc specify bolt guns in their advertisements.
So first, I have to find someone to do the job, and then I have to decide what chamber to put in it.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Oh yes, I suppose I might send it to Ruger. But they will pull out all the trigger assembly, throw it in the garbage, and charge me for new components. Then I have to find a 'smith to fix the trigger again. BTDT with a 77 Mk II

Thanks, I will call and ask. Web page says bolt actions. I have a couple of bolt guns going in to PacNor. I would love for them to do the Ruger also.
I had Shaw do a barrel on a Win 70 7RM recently. It shoots great. Return shipping to my USPO was $75. If I rebarrel four rifles, that's $300 each way. I will drive to Salem, from near Boise deliver them, then drive back and pick them up for that cost.

Not sure yet.
On one hand I have about 400 loaded rounds.
On the other hand, the time has come to start distributing firearms to kids and grandkids, and I can not think of one who would really have a use for a 7mm STW.
Something with a .532 case head. 7mm or smaller.

The beauty if the Number 1 is that you don't have yo re barrel to cartridge with the same dia. case head.

From the Pac Nor website:
"...PAC-NOR does barrel Ruger models 1 and 3 but does not rebarrel other lever actions, slide actions, semi-automatic rifles or actions with pressed-in barrels."

I am happy with the job that PacNor did with my #1. Went from a 7mm Mag to a 6mm CM. Keep in mind that you will need to source a correct size ejector if you want to to change to a cartridge with a different case head.
Another thing to keep in mind is that they will source out the drill and tap job to another local gunsmith, which adds to the cost.

SSK just re-barreled a No 1 for me. Turned my 375 H&H Belted to a 375 Flanged Mag Nitro Express.

My gunsmith/friend sent his No 1 to Douglas and they rebarreled it to 38-55. He's getting old, and just didn't want to do it himself.

Douglas was one of Ruger's original Number 1 barrel supliers and from what my gunmsmith told me, the have the ability to rebarrel using the original barrel countours. Their Air Gauge barrels have a very good reputation.

Bill Wiseman does excellent work on rebarreling a No 1, but now a days is taking a long time to do much due to personal issues!
MAGA! This is the way!
