The past few years my drive for deer hunting isn't quite what it used to be. Chasing woman and fish have replaced getting up at the crack of dawn freezing my butt off hoping for a deer. I've never been a horn hunter growing up if we wanted steak it was usually venison unless we were at a family or friends house for dinner. As I grew older it became a reason to spend time with my dad, and after he passed spend time with my friends. Several years ago our deer camp was sold and eventually work and my other hobbies replaced hunting. Well being down to my last 10 lbs of venison I decided I should probably get out and try for the last week of the season. Monday I decided to head over to my uncles property and sit in the shack he built for my dad. I felt closer to him in there but the field was so overgrown I couldn't see 50 yards. So I decided to still hunt the edges. 30 minutes later I look up to see the back of a doe 40 yards out, about the time I saw her she lifted her head and had me dead to rights. The wind was in my favor so I waited until she put her head down, I raised my gun she raised her head I pulled the trigger and click. I thought the bolt wasn't slammed shut but now I'm not sure because when I got home I noticed one of my cartridges was considerably shorter than the rest. I checked the bottom of it and it said 308 and I know it came from the same box so I don't know what the deal is. Anyways Monday was enough to get me in the spirit so I woke up at 3 am and got ready. Walked the quarter mile to my deer stand that I hung several years ago and climbed in and proceeded to freeze my ass off for the next few hours. 10 o'clock rolls by I call my friend and say it's wing day at a my favorite bar you drive I will buy. I hang up my phone and look up to see a does head about a 100 yards away sticking out of the brush. Somehow despite the shaking from the cold and probably a bit of deer fever I dropped her in her tracks. Now for the fun part. Gutting her and dragging her. the quarter mile to where I thought I could drive. A hour later I had her close enough to drive to and walk back to my suv I drive about 20 yards from her and the frozen ground gives way and I bury the vehicle. Call up my friend and he comes to pull me out I was worried we would both get stuck but with a final yank I was out and free. Some meat in the freezer, a good sense of accomplishment , and help from a good friend when you need it the most. I thought one hand was good enough for the day, but a hand from a friend was much appreciated

I picked this deer drag device up a few years ago. Never tried it. It's amazing reduces the drag by at least 40 percent keeping the front of the deer off the ground. One hand was all it took[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Congrats. Performance shooting has had a few nice looking variations of the BAR over the years. Always wanted one but never pulled the trigger. Wish I had.

Nice job, Irving.

Thanks he's a local knife maker, he puts out some great stuff. I had him model this off the Scrade Sharpfinger one of my favorite styles. ML Knives

The rifle after doing some research I purchased from Diamond Jim on here a few years ago, first blood with it.

The shells were just a box of federal 150 grains. Still not sure why the one is considerably shorter and if that was the cause of my dry fire the previous time out
