Back to your number 3:
The Sauer probably would fire the surplus 8mm fine, but if you have no intention of doing it why is that a criteria for you? It seems arbitrary and pointless. I don't care if my 30-06s will fire century old garbage that got dug up from the trenches of Verdun, because I will never need them to.
If you already have a nice FN, you should just fix that and use it. That's the easiest way and it takes a nice old rifle off the sidelines. If you want a more modern rifle, buy the Winchester in a more common caliber.
You're making this much harder than it needs to be.

What is the reason for getting rid of your current M77?

5. Furthermore, I forgot to mention in my original post that I do have a Husqvarna Commercial Mauser in 8x57 that was built in the 1950s on an FN 98 action. The problem with it is that I had a gunsmith install a Gentry Three Position Safety on it and said safety does not work correctly. If this could be fixed I would consider going with that rifle after perhaps cerakoting it for corrosion resistance and adding a Bell and Carlson stock. Said gunsmith was not a gunsmith. Would have a gunsmith repair/undo the said gunsmith's handiwork on the Husqvarna and the 8x57 would be no longer a delima. g

I will look into getting the Husqvarna fixed. Are there any qualified Mauser gunsmiths that the forum could recommend I send it to? Also, with these Husqvarna rifles, is there any collectibility to them or is it considered acceptable to modify them to one’s preferences? Such modifications could include cerakoting and shortening the barrel to 22 inches. I ask this as someone coming from the milsurp collector area where any modification to a rifle is highly frowned upon.

I'm getting older and I see the utility in common easy find and feed cartridges. Today the 6.5creed, 270win, 308win, and 30-06 reign supreme in availability and in hunting circles. Everything else is basically a play toy unless your in a restricted straight wall state. ^^ x2! ^^ ...... Especially for a new shooter who doesn't yet handload and have a ton of loading kit like most of us old fossils.
