Here we go, again…

Vista Outdoor, a parent company to many firearms businesses, told Newsweek that it will substantially increase its ammunition prices due to "an anticipated global shortage of gunpowder."

Apologies, if this has already been posted.

Does much of U.S. ammo manufacturer powder come from overseas? Certainly Ukraine & Israel are an early Christmas present to arms & ammo makers, but how much U.S. ammo is being redirected to those conflicts?

From the article:
Shotshell: 1-7 percent
Rifle: 1-7 percent
Handgun: 1-5 percent
22LR/Shorts: 1-5 percent
WMR/HMR: 1-7 percent
Primers: 5 percent
Alliant Powder: 10 percent (limited availability)

WTF with primers?! They've already been scalping us. Singling out Alliant Powder is also interesting.

Does Vista market a brand of powder other than Alliant?

Raising prices due to an ANTICIPATED shortage. That's akin to Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize for bringing HOPE.

Trying to ignite sales at the end of the year to make 2023 results look better. Usually a precursor to a sale.

Any excuse will work for some of those bean counters.

Honestly, at this point -- even if you don't reload and just rely on factory ammo -- we've have so many shortages and supply chain issues in the last couple years there's zero excuse not to have what you need.

These guys know what legislation is coming down the pike.

The scarcity of powder is 100% due to government.

Well, considering inflation is going up at around 8%, a 5-7% increase means that we will be paying 1-3% less in inflation adjusted dollars.

Yes it is posted in about 10 other places on the Fire....
One thing it does not mention in this article is that Vista Outdoors sold out their ammo businesses to the Czechoslovak Group (CSG) for 1.91 Billion dollars but the deal is not final for a few months.
I'm sure that has something to do with the price increase !!!!!!!

I saw that not so long ago in the news. I had a feeling we would soon be paying more.

It's crazy to see things like power pistol, green dot, and unique at $55/pound around here lately. Some of those flake powders used to be the cheapest ones. I used tons of power pistol during my college years because it was cheap. Now I'm switching to Vihtavouri to save money. I never imagined I'd be paying less for VV than power pistol.

The only thing Vista hasn't cranked the price on is speer bullets. Except of gold dots. Some of their hotcor rifle bullets are still priced reasonably.

Came across a keg of Unique a few weeks ago. $400. All of Alliant powders are through the roof. Was getting BE86 for less than $25 a pound and now it’s almost twice that.
